Came up with a new idea last weekend and its about using coffee grounds when planting the seedlings in proper soil out on the patch.
It's about a month til I get started and trays + accesories are taken care of.
As I think right now , these are the varieties I'll grow this year.
107 plants all in all

Small Stalk Black Mammoth
Mopan Mayan
Orinoco
Izmir
Brasil Dunkel
Dannemann Brasil Bahia
Little Yellow
Narrow Leaf Madole
Kentucky Brown

I'll use urea and calcium nitrate for fertilizers

I put coffee grounds in my compost pile. What is the idea you have using the coffee grounds at planting?

I figured I have the grounds in the bottom of each hole I plant in , what you think about that Knuck ?
Its rich in nitrogen and calcium.

I have no idea what nutrients or benefits that just coffee grounds brings to the mix, I just know that it's good to add to compost or worm beds. Give it a shot and keep us updated. Try some with and without on each variety and see if you can tell a difference.

I´ve tried that. It clearly benefits earthworms (they come up to pull it into their holes) and helps creating an airy soil (something tobacco plants like). I throw the press cakes from the espresso maker around bigger tobacco plants and roses.

There´s a risk of molding. Also, in my tests tobacco seedlings do not seem to prosper much on a substrate consisting just or mostly of coffee grounds.

I think the best is you work it into your soil over the winter.

How does Mopan Mayan smoke?

I guess a lot of people have a cup of coffee and a cigg. In the.morning..

With your bacca the caffene will be "built in"...

And yes the grounds will get mold if on top..but if your put.ting them in the bottom of your starting trays.you should be fine

Your plants should be perked up, if your using percolated coffe grounds. I think if nothing else it may deter certain pests that prey on seedlings by getting in the soil starter mix.

You might just have a point there Chicken , bacca could perhaps catch flavour from the coffee grounds.

I think if using it on top it might keep snails/slugs ? , earth worms will just love the stuff

Making a correction from what I said here above : Coffee grounds DOES NOT contain Calcium but Calium Phosphorus Magnesium and Copper

I used the coffee grounds on the top soil, it does seem to stimulate plant growth!

I used coffee grounds last year a lot. I read that is good fertilizer but like knucklehead said is better to ferment it in compost first. If you have few coups a day that is nothing to worry about. Last year I make deal with three coffee shops and I collect coffee grounds once every ten days, about 10 to 50 pounds in each bar. I still have a pile from last year.
The best experience was with snails. They hate the coffee because it impact their nervous system. So I spread a lot of coffee around my growing zone. It really helped a lot.
The coffee is acidic and my soil is alkaline and I thought that I will make it right for my tobacco. I believe I use it to much. But in the end of season I collect nice tobacco.

Coffe is good stuff! BTW, wish you all the best this year.

You can find a lot of articles on net, but the best looking roses in the garden are the ones where our grandmother spell the coffee grounds ...:)
