Is frenching where the leaves curl under? That looks like it needs attention, was it exposed to herbicide by chance, that could cause that.

I agree with BT. The final photo looks like frenching. But frenching is a generic nutrient screw-up that is often the result of a pH that is outside of the range suitable for tobacco. The cupped leaf tips in other photos (e.g. 3rd to last photo) is distinctive of calcium deficiency, but this is also likely due to a pH issue.

Dolomite is appropriate if the soil pH is too low (is too acidic).

It's worth noting that some herbicides work by inhibiting certain metabolic processes that are mineral dependent, and the visible effects may resemble calcium deficiency or frenching.

So indeed I have a problem here. The problems I see in the garden match some of the pictures I see. The question is...what to do if it is a herbicide. I've mentioned before the issues I've been having with my tomatoes. They definitely show signs of herbicide damage even though it has not been used since last year.

So, I guess I'll treat for ph and calcium and see what happens from there. I can see now that I will not be planting my late crops in any part of this front or back yard. Luckily I have a prepare piece of land on the other side of the farm that is far away from past herbicide spraying.

The plants in your backyard are big and green :) That's coool !
The one in your frontyard may need more time ?
I just finished planting all my plants, it took me nearly a month ... (I did prepare the soil one place at a time... so it was looooong) and there is a huge difference between the first planted one and the last :)

Check for your soil PH (as Bob adviced), you will eventually find a solution to help your plants :)

Thanks for the link on testing the soil ! I will try it sooner or later :)

From the pictures I see that there is a lot of weeds.
I know it is a lot of work but now it is time for hoeing and cleaning the weeds.
Tobacco roots needs water but also air. Clean the weeds and you will see the result. Don't bother with seek plants. Just pull them out and replace with spares if you have.
You will still have plenty of good tobacco.

I been struggling with some breathing issues lately and just have not had the energy to weed lately. I've been dealing with these issues since March. Going to a lung specialist as soon as the VA can get me in. All of the work I've done so far has been steriod induced labor. Those pills help a lot and give me energy but I may only get 4hrs of sleep in two days. Then when I stop taking them the breathing issues return. So, damn frustrating. I've always been an active outdoors person and this stuff shuts me down quick. They say it's COPD. Just a fancy word for chronic breathing issues brought on by 35yrs of smoking cigarettes. I've not smokes a cig in over 8yrs but I guess the damage is done. Today my pace is slow and steady. I get things done but it takes a lot of breaks.

My dad was a 2 pack a day smoker for 40 years plus. He doesn't get sick while smoking but caught many diseases after he quit. He quit cold turkey. That is why many Doctor here advice to quit smoking gradually. They say it help the body to adjust with the years of nicotine depedency. But my dad said, if he smoke again even 1 cigarette he will be hooked again.

Anyway I hope you will get better so you can tend the garden. It is a nice grow you get going there.

Thanks Lefty, your father is correct. It is a hard habit to stop. Took me a dozen tries but I finally did it...said the guy with a yard full of tobacco... lol. I believe nicotine is the monster. Even though I no longer use cigarettes. I still get the nic from snuff, cigars, and the pipe. Non are safe alternatives. I just can't inhale it anymore. If that sounds like a cheap excuse well then it probably is. I just can't get that nic monkey off my shoulder.
Anyways, I get things done around here
I just have to take more breaks. Can't wait to get back into the Dr to see if he can give me a medicine to help this breathing issue.

Today I hauled in 80lbs of lime and spread it throughout the garden. I was hoping to get some rain this evening but it appears to be going around us. Also, started to weed the front yard. Got a little bit done but it seems as though the rows get longer...lol. Slow n steady.

I hope the lime helps. It was lime with calcium and mag mixed in. Just wondering how soon I should see the effects.

You only need lime if a soil test shows you are decicient in calcium. If you are and you want a quick fix get some calcium nitrate. It is water soluble so it is immediately available.

The weeding is so important also because it helps breed pests., You will have more pests with a lot of weeds.

Yeah, I know. I am trying to keep up with them. I take a stab at them a little each day. The hot weather forces me to work in the early morning or late evening. If I had a headlamp I'd work at night..lol. The hoeing will help work the lime pellets I put out yesterday as well.
