I make my own cigarettes by measuring 0.9 grams of shredded tobacco on a scale and then transferring the tobacco to an electric machine where the tobacco is injected into cigarette tubes. I'm smoking about 2 packs a day so it takes a lot of time to roll 40 cigarettes. I had another machine that was much faster but used a different mechanism to inject the tobacco into the tubes. I stopped using it because it injected the tobacco into the tubes kind of strange and the hots kept on falling off my cigarette. Can anyone recommend a machine that is much faster?

At least other than the one I saw online that will fill a carton in a matter of a few minutes - I saw it selling for $35,000.00!

I cannot recommend a machine but, why do you measure the tobacco for each cigarette? I use a Top-O-Matic. I just stuff some tobacco in, crack the handle and wa-la. It would probably take me 10 minutes to stuff 40 cigarettes.

I've seen electric injectors that use a screw/auger instead of a rod to fill the tubes. They look pretty quick. I saw a review for one awhile back on RYO magazine's site.

Powermatic 2 elc. spoon injector. not much faster than handcrank but less hassle. Tobacco has to be in case just right or it do'nt pack right.

why do you measure the tobacco for each cigarette?

I weigh the tobacco because I find that the cigarettes draw well at 0.9 grams.

I have a Topomatic and a Powermatic and they work well but if I pack in too much tobacco, then it is hard to draw from the cigarettes. I can avoid this problem by weighing the tobacco.

I also have an electric screw/auger tobacco tube filler and the nice thing about it is that I don't have to weigh the tobacco. However, the hots keep falling off. It became annoying after a while especially when I got a burn mark on the carpet. I thought that maybe it was defective but my brother-in-law had the same problem.

I searched the web and I could not find anything else. Oh well.

At a local smoke shop, they have a machine that will fill a carton of cigarettes in a matter of minutes. You can even adjust it so that the cigarette draws any way you like. But you must use only their tobacco. I saw a machine like this on the web and goes for $35000.00. This is a little more than what I would like to spend.:)

The electric screw type will crush up the tobacco into too small of pieces and the cherry will fall off .

Top-o-matic works best for me .

That is the same issue that can occur with loosely packed cigars made from shredded filler. The solution is to use a longer shred length. So BB's comment makes sense.

i use a dual manually cigg maker,,,,it injects 2 tubes at once,

i bet i can beat any electric machine made,

and it matters not how much i pack in there, as long as it aint too much,,, and it can be in any case, and any shred size,

i dont think id be intrested in a electric machine, and ive used the big, hand slide versions,,,nope<

just give me a cheap hand held manual machine, and i make a mean smoke<<<<

Every review Iv'e read on the auger type cig. machines say they chop the tobacco too much, as well as case has to be just right, and the lit tobacco falls out in your lap. There was a prototype of a machine in europe trying to fix that problem as of a year ago. Not available in the states yet I,m guessing, but the price range was around $400.00

I've been very happy with the Top-o-matic, too. So far it's been very durable and quick enough.

Do you know what mechanism the Fresh Choice Machine uses to fill tubes? Is it the screw/auger type or is it an injector?

It is an injector. I have several of them. They bang out a carton in about 20 minutes.

ive noticed, the little metal rod on the injectors,

isnt glued real good, it's got 2 holes drilled in it, and 2 prongs poking up from the machine, and these are glued toghter.

it's the only fault to the injector, hand held machine,

ive got a triple barrel, machine

it makes 3 at a time,

and the shred from the new POWERMAtic shredder, actually makes it where you can use all 3 tubes,i,

i'd been using just 2 because my old shred, was too thick,

but with the new shredders mix, all 3 will load, up with no issues,

i think i would like the convience, of a electric roller,

ive seen some you-tube videos, that make them look very effeciANT,

i'd say just look and be cautious when reading the reviews,

my manual one only cost 10 bucks off amazon,

them electric ones are pricey,!!!!

so beware,

Can you tell me please why you have more than one? Do they require much maintenance beyond cleaning? Is the packing pressure/density control handy?

Thanks,
John

I own a retail tobacco store and we used to rent them out to people to take home until the recent legislation in the federal highway bill.

I gave them a good cleaning about once per month. I did have cams blow out in 2 of them which FC took care of without question. Keep in mind, that was most likely due to customer abuse. The compaction adjustment is indeed handy, there are basically 10 "notches" or levels of compaction. FC has a series of videos online to completely disassemble, clean, service, etc the machines. There is very little that you couldn't do right at your kitchen table.

They are a bit finicky in regards to what tobacco you use. I made my customers purchase only fresh choice tobacco for use with the machines, but that's not to say people didn't stuff other tobaccos in them.

Well, let me rephrase that a little... they are more finicky about the CUT of the tobacco. When you use FC tobacco and their shredder it cuts the tobacco into a diamond shape, basically. It appears they designed their machines around this. I have tested other tobaccos/cuts in the machine with mixed results. For instance - OHM packs pretty well but 4 Aces is almost always too tight.

Amazon and the like have mixed reviews because the first machines FC put out really weren't all that great. They've made several revisions since then. Would I recommend them? Yes. Not only for their product but their warranty/customer service has been absolutely top notch. It is an American company and the machines are built right here in the good ole USA. The machines work very well when used properly.

That all being said, even though I have multiple FC machines at my disposal, I personally still use a top-o-matic. Why? I simply like the way it makes a smoke better.
