Whoowoo got her done getting hot out.
Mixed up a plain soap an water solution sprayed all my plants paid close attention to new growth and underside of leaves.
The wort hit by the aphids were the Samsun PHYB 1 & 2 a note on these two, they don't sucker much.
After that I decided to give em some extra food (the plants) so I mixed up some fish tea (5-1-1) and added some other stuff (hormone) .
Than watered the base of each plant using my pump sprayer on a gentle stream setting and counted to twenty.
Should give em a little boost.
Next time i'll do something a bit more stout for the bugs....been reading up on it.

I agree with ya Chicken a friend of mine gave me some stuff you mix with water and can put down at the base of your plant
the plant will suck it up and good-bye to a number of pest including the Aphids. I put that down today it will take a few days also got some
Orthene 97 for worms haven't seen any yet but if I do I'll give a dose of that. Was visiting with him yesterday and was an all day affair so I
got back late. Didn't get to look at the patch at all yesterday but was pleasantly surprised when I did today I swear they grew 7 or 8 inches in height
from Saturday morning when I gave them a dose of the fish mix. I'll look to see what the hormone is called and post it tomorrow if I remember.
Did see a few of my big leaves the mid rib looked cut or snapped and the leaf was not really damaged I think maybe wind did it. I'll be keeping an
eye on it being new to growing things am not sure if it could be a cut worm.

Is orthene an actual poison or a bacteria/virus type thing like BT? I can't use anything that would hurt my honey bees.

Orthene 97 is according to the documentation highly toxic to bees have not used this.
The other I have is Admire a generic used this for the Aphids which are spreading but not for long I think.

How so Don? I don't understand.
The heavy duty pesticides are neurotoxins, toxic to the brain and nervous system. They don't kill people right away, but too much exposure over the years leads to all kinds of problems.

The other thing I don't like about them is they kill all insects, even beneficial ones. Then, unless you keep applying it, your garden ends up vulnerable to massive insect damage when one species takes over. You're better off encouraging as much life, insect and microbial (not woodchucks!) in a lawn or garden and then using gentler pesticides that are targeted to certain classes of insects and which break down faster, like BT, or soap/pepper sprays.

I can see how if you're a professional farmer and your livelihood depends on getting the crop in that hey are sometimes necessary, but I think it's crazy that people pay money to the ChemLawns of the world to pour pesticides, weed killers, and chemical fertilizers on a lawn. Why would anyone want a lawn without insects? Which means without birds, too. I have seen lawns that were completely dead, no insect sounds, no birds, and a plant monoculture of one species.

end of rant...

One reason I'm growing my own tobacco is to escape the chemicals applied by Big Tobacco. I also don't want to kill anything that's not eating my tobacco. (especially my honey bees) BT is like bacterial warfare for worms and stuff that eats the tobacco, but is harmless to humans and beneficial insects that don't eat the tobacco (like my bees). The Ortho Bug B Gone I used for hoppers, etc. is supposed to be garden safe, but I still only applied it around the perimeter of the patch since I'm not sure exactly what's in it. It acts as a bait and attracts the bugs to it. I kept it away from the stuff I'm going to be smoking and inhaling.

what about good ol 7-dust? we used it in vegetable garden for years, just not less than a week before harvest. Would it be ok for tobacco in the same usage?

This other stuff I gave my tobacco plants (I called it hormone - it's not says it's Vitamins) is called Superthrive. The Africans are waist high now and very heavy, the others are rite behind em. Signs don't look so big any more.
