Another heat wave and the second crop plants are hiding from the sun under the chairs and whatever shade they can find (img 1). I'm carrying some of them in and out of the house during the day. So far I had just one fatality, the rest although look totally wilted and f*cked will recuperate either inside or in the shade. On img 2 is the raised bed that get the most sunshine/burn. One plant, (the right top corner, just one!) has wilted, I wonder what's wrong. It's been like that for days. Should I just harvest it? I will start harvesting in a week, when the heat is over, anyway. The Aztec leaves look nice but show little signs of yellowing (img 3). Monte Calme Brun are beautiful plants (img 4).

Half of the raised bed of the previous photo now has 10 young plants (img 1), will do the rest later today. They wilted in the sun but I'm sure they'll be fine. These (img 2) will have to wait another week or two. Brun variety cures great (img 3) as well as small Aztec plants with light green leaves (img 3). The dark green leaves of Aztec will dry green at the same conditions in my experience, so I will yellow them inside a blanket in the sun or other hot place before hanging them in the garage (img 4).

Today I finished harvesting all the first crop plants and replacing them with the second one (Aztec only, I let the Brun plants grow for now). Transplanted on May 13-14, roughly 70 days ago. 70 days from now puts me in the beginning of October, ideal time for the second harvest. Maybe I'll get it right this time.
I saw the thread of yellowing the leaves in a kiln at 31C or so, what a great idea! But for now I use a towel in a crate. Works ideally under the sun, leaves get hot and yellow in under a week. Will test it in the garage at room temperature -- the rain is coming. Will be very useful for the second harvest if it works.

Practicing with my bed leaves at 16 - 24°C took a week or three for yellowing. I had them laid out in newspaper and brown paper grocery bags.

Well.... let's give this a try. If there is strength in numbers and a handle of tobacco can preserve moisture when curing.... what if I pack a lot of stalks together?
Using long nails, I secured 3 or 4 stalks together and hung them REALLY close together. Yes, the leaves WILL stick together and make it hard to strip, but it's not so hard after hydrating the leaves.

Last fall I had trouble getting the leaves to yellow. It was cold and damp in the garage so I hanged them in the basement. The humidity was too low and they started drying green. To rescue them I packed them into ziplock bags and put in the electric blanket. In a day or two they looked destroyed. But they were not. I fermented them in a kiln and they made my strongest and almost favourite cigarettes from last year's harvest. Despite of that I'd like to find a less drastic way to yellow the leaves. I think deluxestogie recommended to loosely cover them with plastic to keep the moisture. Another thing to try.

Airing the leaves daily otherwise they will show signs of mold or rot. The leaves on the second image are ready to be hung in the garage. I wonder why some turn yellow and others turn brown in the same conditions. Not particularly happy with the state of some of them, hope they will cure well. Lastly Ozzy is guarding weed after the sunset LOL

Heavy rain for a couple of days, some toppled but all will survive. My backups in the middle image, don't know what to do with them, just let em grow I guess. On the other hand curing in the garage is going according to the script (7 in a bundle, the total will be 500+).
