Puffin the occasional pipe smoker here, and hello from the country with the second highest tax on tobacco products (not far behind our Australian cousins who still apparently take the #1 spot in 2025), hence the motivation for some home cultivation. What a wealth of information this forum provides! A big thank you then to all the members who have contributed since its inception and been generous in sharing their knowledge and experience, and to those behind the scenes, moderating and maintaining the contents.
We're moving into the growing season down under and this is my first time growing tobacco. No problem though as I trawled the Forum and all the information I needed to get underway was here. My seeds went into their indoor trays at the start of September, so the plants — both Virginia and Oriental (specific varietals unknown) — are now 8 weeks old and will be planted out at the end of November. In the meantime, and while the plants do their thing, I'm fine-tuning a 40–gallon kiln project so things are ready well in advance of when needed.
I do have some questions where I can't find the exact information I'm looking for, relating mainly to processing. My thanks in advance to any members who can help me out with these. I'll post in due course in the appropriate places. Anyway, enough for now, and I'm very pleased to be here!
