Hi all, my name's Tom, from Falmouth, Cornwall.

I've had a search, but can't find an answer, but it seems my staghorn tobacco plants mid leaves are ripening before my lower leaves!?

Shall I just wait for them all to start turning, or is it worth while taking the mottled alligator leaves midway off now?! Cheers all!1000019476.jpg

I'm going for rolling tobacco, plus maybe a bit of cheap 'cigar' filler, and yep I topped them all two days ago, carefully pulled the new leaves apart to get to the bud very early. Strange thing was the middle leaves were already showing colour change before I topped. Thought possibly a nitrogen deficiency, but I did give them a feed around 3 day's ago now

Thank you

Welcome to the forum, @Faltown. Feel free to introduce yourself in the Introduce Yourself forum. Read the New Growers' FAQ, and perhaps scan through the topics in our Index of Key Forum Threads.

just my .02, priming 2 days after topping seems premature. There are varying opinions on when to prime but this thread might lend you some guidance. I have referenced it quite a few times. https://fairtradetobacco.com/threads/ripe-o-meter-mature-vs-ripe.11970/ my cigar leaves do the same thing in regards to color but I'm pretty sure it has to do with the fact that Seco doesn't get much sunlight. Also I read in the mentioned thread nicotine production hits its peak at 5 weeks after topping if that is important to you. I do leave my ligero on the plant 2-3 weeks after Viso priming to zap all of the plant energy into the remaining leaves but I like the "sungrown" flavors.

That's incredibly useful information! Thank you, a lot of that makes sense with the path of the sun where these are growing. Cheers
