Well its a new year to start growing so I'll wait a month or so before starting my extended baccy plot. my cover crop of crimson clover gets ate on by the local wildlife ever nite.I have a huge pile of horse manure stewing and brewing. just a big huge pile over wintering.I'll till some in my rows as needed. Thats the least my new neighbor can do for buying my prime huntin property next door and fencing wit 5" hogwire right and raising race horses.I have already had some really great varietys of seeds donated to me from friends thru membership that I am realy looking forward to.Thanks. I plan on a good year for this year to expand my crop from 400 plants last yr. to 600-800 this yr. Yea!!!;)

BarG, Keep in mind that the more Nitrogen you add to your soil the higher the nicotine content will be in your tobacco. Have you had a soil test done?

Re: BarG 2013 grow log

I haven't tested this year yet. I have 2 separate areas I will grow tobacco in. 1 will be fresh breaking ground with a good loamy soil like last years plot along with another grow in my 2012 plot. I added the Black cow manure at about 50 -70 lbs per 25-30 plants along with lime with no soil test in that particular area. last yrs soil tested areas ended up being my veg. gardens.I was scared I still had too much potassium chlorides in those areas. I have been using that fert. very restrictivly since my 2011 screw up.

On a separate note. I wonder if I used my 55 gallon compost drum half 3/4 filled with the horse manure that has been over wintering could be sterillized by lighting a fire under it and turning enough to kill any weed seeds, before tilling into rows.

Wow I was always told that cattle digest seeds better than a horse does and that cow manure
had less in tacked seed. And on top of that I used horse manure a few years ago and got all kinds
of weeds.

I had great weed frre conditions last yr. $100.00 on my composted Black cow sh.t and bedding and hay. Last yrs. was planted crimson clover cover with practicly 0% weed seed and it is covered with weeds also. We'll see how they till and take it from there.

I plant by the signs.. I wait for it to be warm and sunny and I plant... planting by the moon is too hard, I can't see a thing .;)

If I had night vision I would be up all night for weeks.Heh Heh Heh

A trial run with my new green house. I put it only 4' from electricity and running water with partial sun and shade.

This year I plan on cutting my seed starting labor way down. I will plant the seeds directly where I want them to grow instead of transplanting. Plus I had no choice with the new puppy ,1/2 lab and 1/2 vizla that my daughter unloaded on me.
[Alledgedly to teach her some manners] A realy fine ,smart dog but a holy terror.
I'll probably start 800+ plants, and try to sell some localy just for grins, along with a faq sheet from FTT or web address..

It looks like a piece of furniture. I love the mitered corners and the rabbetts for the glass. The skids were a good idea. You wouldn't be a little OCD would you?

Re: BarG 2013 grow log

Nah, that was the easiest way to build. The lumber cost has been going up on a weekly basis here. I have enough glass to build another one but won't buid except by request and it won't be cheap. I have a prototype to go by so the next would be easier and faster but still expensive.

It will double as a solar kiln to finish off my air dryed hdwd lmbr. this summer after its empty of seedlings.

The shelving will be reworked to be adjustable and removable at next greenhouse function.
I'll make the middle shelf that way.

Not the easiest. The best. It shows real craftsmanship. You don't know how many people that would have overlapped the two bys and put glass between them with bent over nails to hold the glass in. LOL. Good job.
