I'm going to start buying whole leaf and I'm wondering what to mix to make something close to Turkish Royals. If anyone has similar tastes and maybe know of a blend that I might like. I'm buying international and I can't sample as much as i would like. I'm currently thinking Bright Leaf Virginia Flue Cured - Sweet 70% (not sure the difference between all the Virginia's, Sweet, Smooth etc.)
Burley 15%
Samsun Turkish 15%

i'm going in blind so I'm not really sure how this blend would taste. Can anyone start me on the right path?

Welcome to FTT.
For a “Camel like” I would begin with 45% flue cured, 40% burley (or Maryland) and 15% Turkish (Samsun or Izmir).
In Europe, Camel cigs are cased with liquorice, but probably not in North American market.

Thank you I'll try that and some other ratios of mixing when I get my leaf. One of the biggest question's I have is what type of Virginia i should be buying. Is there a difference? I have access to BL Smooth, BL Sweet, Canadian and American.

How did things go for you? Did you used to smoke the blue pack or red pack of royals?

Hey, I know this is an old thread, but in case you are still experimenting:
A year or two back I was also on the quest to make something close to a turkish royal, I used to smoke a lot of them (blue pack mostly but red are similar). I believe in the end I decided they likely use both samsun and izmir in the Royal blend (I believe they advertise this somewhere or other if you dig around, but I could be mis-remembering). Samsun is definitely the major flavor component, though.
I landed on somewhere around a 2:1 ratio of samsun:izmir respectively to most closely replicate the flavor (in my opinion). I also added bright-leaf virginia and burley (I recommend experimenting with the amount of virginia and burley, I like my turkish cigs very strong on the "turkish" and on the smooth side so I go light on virginia and burley)

It would be a Izmir prilep samsun bursa and Yendi I think with just virginia. The Canadian is what you would want.
