Can anyone explain "Cavendish" to me?

I do realise its a process that involves steam and a Cavendish cut but where did it originate and what leaves are normally used?

"Cavendish cut" is unrelated. Cavendish tobacco is essentially stewed tobacco. Cut it however you like. It's origin is unclear. I have made Cavendish from over a dozen wildly different varieties, including flue-cured tobacco. Every one is different. The variety impacts the flavor, aroma and nicotine intensity.
