Hello!
I'm looking to get rolling again and would like to pick up a few choice fillers / wrappers from WLT.

For fillers, I'm particularly interested in your experience with with the current Criollo 98 and Nicaraguan Esteli offerings.

For wrappers, I'd love to know how the Ecuadorian offerings compare - particularly the Maduro, Corona, Bronceado, and Los Rios.

Thanks in advance for your comments!

I really enjoy the Maduro. Chocolate and spice... Occasional dried fruit

Having only used 4-5 different types of wrapper from WLT, I really like the Habano 92. Easy to work with, I like the color and the flavor works well with the Nicaraguan leaves. My experience has always been great product from WLT. The trick is blending it.

Welcome back to home rolling @mwaller !

Looking over the WLT website you can’t go wrong with any of the criollo 98 or Nic Estelí leaf. I’m a fan of the Rene Ligero as well (Corojo ‘99 x San Vicente). Piloto Cubano leaf is a nice condiment variety I’ve added to some blends. PA broadleaf Seco are huge leaves and could definitely have some binders & wrapper leaves in each lb. Olor is used by many big commercial brands, which I’d look at the Ligero &/or Viso offerings. Paraguay Flojo are massive leaves as well and takes a little bit of experimenting with.

Regarding the wrappers, this is how I’d rank them based upon my preferences:

1 & 2: Maduro + Los Rios (depending on desired color).
Maduro = Chocolate, not overpowering, blends exceptionally well
Los Rios= great leaf to work with! Add’s a nice little spiciness to a blend. Again, not overpowering

3: Corona- Has a little more nic kick. Some leaves in lbs can vary in colors if you’re trying to get consistent wrapper appearances.

4. Bronceado- I’ve used as an alternate wrapper on some blends. Works out ok for some, but I’d take Maduro or Los Rios over Bronceado. It is a great leaf to work with and consistent.

I’d also consider the following wrappers:
-Besuki- Phenomenal leaf and blends exceptionally well
-Habano 2000- A staple wrapper to have on hand
-Nicaraguan Shade- Solid wrapper and blends well
- EC Rosado- great aroma, easy to work with, blends well

Thanks so much for the detailed input! I went ahead and picked up a number of the fillers and wrappers you mentioned, and look forward to trying them.
I still have a large inventory of leaf purchased in 2018-2019, some of which have turned into real gems. The Piloto Cubano ligero and viso continue to be among my favorites.

I'm curious about the PA Broadleaf - how would you describe the flavor profile? This variety has a reputation for being very earthy, which doesn't inherently appeal to me. However, one of the reviewers described it like chocolate... what's your take?
