I ordered 5 lb of whole leaf like few times before. I am from Ontario and had no problems with past orders. This time for some reason the order was shipped to Denmark, than come back to USA and crossed the border in Vancouver. It was held by the customs for 30 days. Now is out for delivery by Canada Post. Day before scheduled delivery I got an e-mail to pay $1005 of duties. I will refuse to get the package. I am not paying $1000 bucks for $150 worth of tobacco.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

If you have ordered the leaf from WLT, then contact WLT to request their usual document stating that it is unprocessed, citing the relevant law. Inform your Canada Post of the document coming.

I sent email to WLT and got the document and info what to do. Great and fast reply. I will ask the post office to send the package to customs for reassessment.

I have had that happened and ask for a reevaluation. I posted a link with the tax laws on raw tobacco. It's in the Canadian duty and taxes. Copy and past the link in a email to customs. I do it every year and say there's not the tax on whole leaf tobacco as it is not processed and not separated from the stems. The first time I ordered got the same sort of thing and there was not a reassessment form on the duty package.

Really good to hear that, WLT is great to deal with.
I'm near London I order 80 ounces at a time and the duty charge is right around $30. It usually goes to Montreal or Toronto then too me it takes around 16 days.
Lots of Canadians get lucky and don't get charged duty all the time.
After the first time I got charged duty they seem to have me on a shit list and I get charge every time now, 5 pounds $30 cad no big deal.

Good your getting it back. Lots of times I have emailed customs and said look out for it every year and send the invoice directly to them. Just out me on your list please as it is a yearly thing so you know what it is .

Finally package of 5lb of raw tobacco arrived today. No duty, just $20 for Canada post. Thank you all for great comments
Hope you enjoy your package.
You can opt to have it delivered to your door on the Canada post tracking page, you pay by credit card.
It is a small window to do this you have to keep checking the tracking page after it hits Ontario Customs it will tell you how much is due.
