It was suggested I share here.

Central Maryland resident. Occasional social pipe and cigar smoker. Usually during every weekend or two at outdoor historic educational gigs. 2020 ruined the social aspect, so my two a month habit turned into an eight a month habit just wanting to get out and go to the park with the family and a local Cigar Lounge that is amazing. Finally taking the time to learn what I like, and don't. Just started rolling my own. Still a far cry from someone who knows anything about tobacco but I'm getting there.

Thanks for having me, looking forward to the continued descent into learning way too much about the simple things in life and enjoying the ride anyway.

Hey mjohn,

Welcome! It looks like we are both partaking this journey around the same time! Looking forward to seeing and hearing your perspective as well! Out of curiosity, what type of tobacco did you start rolling with?

Accountability buddies, I like it! :D

My kit is the Whole Leaf Tobacco Oscuro y Rico kit. My favorite stick is the EP Carrillo Seleccion Oscuro. While I watched likely dozens of hours of video, I pretty much followed Robert Davis' 'How to Roll your First Cigar' video to a T with the recommended accoutrements. How far are you in and what are you rolling with?

It'd be fun to get a virtual chat session going with other new rollers one night and just roll a bunch.

For sure brother!

I was eying up that starter kit myself. How have they turned out for you so far? The Sumatra binder is what peaked my interest in that one. I will have to agree with you on watching the video's online. I always like to go back and reference them when I hit a "roadblock" or have an issue I see over and over. The Robert Davis video is typically the fist video I go through. Great pace and answers a plethora of questions I had right away.

I started with:
1- "Starter Kit"- Included accessories & ( Wrapper- Ecuadorian Shade, Binder- Nicaragua, Filler- Dominican Criollo Seco '98)
2- 1/4 lb additional of Dominican Criollo Seco '98
3-"Medium Combo"-2 lbs (Wrapper-1/2 lb of Pennsylvania Broadleaf, Binder- 1/2 lb. of CT 2LS Broadleaf, Filler- 1/2 lb Dominican Criollo Ligero '98 & 1/2 lb Nicaraguan Jalapa Seco)

I have been taking notes with each cigar I roll and have now moved it over into spreadsheet form to help keep track. Total of 35 cigars rolled and wrapped in about 2 weeks now. I don't get much sleep, I keep imagining different blends to put together. Also, just placed my second order for 10 more lbs of leaf from WLT last night. :)

I forgot to mention, a Video Chat session would be cool! I would be down at some point. Perhaps we can get some veterans of the leaf on there to share some knowledge bombs!

The kit seems fantastic, unfortunately I don't even know much about the leaves used enough to really tell one from another. I know what stick I like the best and picked from that. My first two I just rolled and haven't even smoked them yet. The plan is visiting the cigar lounge tomorrow and testing them out. I am looking forward to blending and the note taking aspect. It was recommended to make a few small pure leaf cigarillos and use that to learn the differences.

Quite the start! I found your post with your rolled photos, keep up the great work!

Right on! Let us know how they turn out when you get to smoking them! I have tried the pure cigarillos years ago and do believe I'll be trying that again once the new leaves come in. I think I'll need to get some leaves a little bit more humidified though (filler) so it doesn't crack when rolling. I saw your first few cigars you rolled up in the forum to show pics of what you've rolled. Yours look fantastic IMHO. Especially w/o a mold! Keep it up bud!
