I purchased the budget shredder a couple months ago and this past week I finally finished setting up my new rolling station/space where I can sit and shred my tobacco, roll my cigs, store my leaf and other tobacco accessories. I'm disabled so things can take me a while...
I put an older table in there so that I could attach the budget shredder to it and not care if it mars the surface. I was so excited that I finally got this all set up and thought I would be effortlessly shredding tobacco in no time. I've been using scissors for the past six months and that works fine. I end up with a shred that would probably be called flake my cigs roll just as well as they did with the processed tobacco and at some point here I hope to also build a flake box as well. I deal with chronic pain so the scissors can be a bit much for me at times which is why I got the budget shredder not to mention I am sure it saves a little time...
Anyway here is the issue and I am hoping there is a fix!
When I turn the handle only the one of the shredder spools, the one that is connected to the handle is spinning. So therefore they aren't grabbing the leaf to shred. It seems obvious there is to much space between the two shredder spools sorry idk the actual terminology of these parts but hopefully you all know what I am talking about and can help me with this!
Is there a way to adjust the space between them so they grab the leaf? I even tried two layers of leaf and they still did not grab it to shred. With three layers of leaf it seemed as if it was wanting to grab a little at the bottom edge while held near the spools and it looked like the other spool was going to engage and turn as well but I stopped since I read someplace to only shred one leaf at a time using the budget shredder.
The only other thing I noticed that didn't seem correct is that while cranking the handle it is hitting off the brace that goes from the main part of the shredder down to the clamp that attaches to table top. I left it be while cranking the handle and looking at the mechanism trying to figure our what the issue is and I am clueless other than it seems pretty obvious to me there is to much space between the two shredder spools that shred the tobacco.
I've always been on the handy side and can usually figure things out on my own but I am at a lose. Mind you my vision isn't what it used to be so maybe I am missing something. That's why I am here asking for help.
Things I've tried so far:
I got my tools out and made sure that the screws and nuts of the device were tightened properly and they were...
I gently pulled the handle away from the brace so it's not hitting anymore the crank handle is made of a pretty soft metal so that was easy but of course it made no difference in the space between the spools.
So can this be fixed/adjusted or did I just get a dud and need to order another one???
Any help and advice will be very much appreciated!

I have one like you described, if it is a 3 spool there's that little triangular plastic cover on the side. I would have to guess the gear drive mechanism is under that cover and maybe your gears aren't "in mesh".

Thanks I've been looking for a solution all week here on the forum and on the web and haven't found anything yet but I haven't stopped looking because I won't this to work!
I think I may have just fixed this issue I am about to go screw it back on the table and see if I am correct! I'll let you know if I did!

that was exactly it! I just came back here to post that I had indeed figured it out earlier. Finally! It was making me nuts! So I took that end piece off earlier and the gear was not sitting on its post. So I reseated the gear, screwed the cap back on and my scissors are cleaned and tucked away in the drawer! It is now shredding beautiful tobacco! Not sure why my dumb butt didn't think to check under the end cap sooner! Thanks everyone! Maybe this will help someone in the future!

Mine only has two shredder spools and the end cap is like a rectangle with rounded ends but it sounds to be fashioned the same.

it's the budget shredder from WLT ;) works like a charm now that the gear is where it needed to be!
