Hello everyone,

I live in North Vancouver Island where the humidity on a dry day is 73% and jumps up to 80%+ when it rains. I am struggling to keep my humidor at or below 70%.

I’ve heard to use dry cedar shavings or let the moisture out of your humidor for a few hours. The problem with the last solution is my house is at 80% humidity right now so in reality I’m not doing anything by opening up the humidor.

Luckily the temlerature stays around 70 degrees Fahrenheit in my house or i’d really be struggling. Any suggestions or tips is greatly appreciated!

My recommendation is to use Boveda packs. They are said to operate in both directions when regulating humidity.

How big is your humidor?

The other option, which is if you by chance had a very large humidor, would be to heat the entire room or humidor in such a way that there was no direct heat on the cigars. Theoretically a 2°C increase in temperature from 21° to 23° will drop relative humidity by about ten percent.

On the positive side sounds like the perfect rolling environment. Just lay your leaves out on the table for an hour and get started. :)

Plan B is to add a small open jar of dry white rice. When it no longer sucks moisture out of the humidor air, you can refresh the same rice by heating it at a low temp in the oven. Costs way less than Boveda. Another rig is an open jar of rock salt. It will drag the humidity down to 75%, and continue to do so until all the salt is dissolved (a long time).

I should add that your cigar filler probably will need to be seco heavy, and the wrappers good burners, in order to keep cigars lit.

You will need to change out the bovedas as they absorb moisture and fill up. You can also find some silica beads that are conditioned to regulate humidity. Search kitty Litter Humidification, this involved conditioning the beads to regulate a certain humidity. They absorb the moisture, then you can dry them in the oven and reuse.

You can buy pre-conditioned beads off amazon....here is one example.....available in 65% or 70%

RHShield Travel Cigar Humidity Beads 70% Humidifier Tube for 70 Cigars RHShie... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01491SWKA/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_U_x_9KjkDb721EWRT

I am in no way associated with this product, I have used both purchased beads in the past and conditioned my own as well, there are several types available.

Kitty litter will work well. Be sure to buy the absolute cheapest stuff that has no clumping agent or scent added. It's just pure clay.
