Hello, I'm curious if there are any good ways to mentholate RYO cigarettes. Is there a menthol liquid I could buy to place on the filter tips, or a way to flavor the tobacco blend itself?
I've used menthol crystals kept in a separate container to impart the flavor into tobacco. Not in any professional manner just messing around. Had the menthol left over from making police for horse's legs. Worked well

Welcome to the forum. Feel free to introduce yourself in the Introduce Yourself forum. Be sure to scan through our Index of Key Forum Threads (linked in the menu bar) for topics of interest.

If you use our (not so great) search function, you can enter "menthol", and check the box for Search titles only, and read through a bunch of discussions on menthol.

So I know this thread is a bit old, but I'm a menthol smoker and looked this up earlier this year, bought some menthol crystals for 10 bucks or so on amazon.. apparently they evaporate at around 95 degrees F, so you can basically toss a little chunk of menthol crystal in a bag with tobacco or anything else ya wanna mentholate and put it over a heater vent or in a car on a sunny day, the menthol vaporizes and then when cooled back down it recrystalizes on whatever is in the bag.... fast forward a couple months and I was no longer thinking about this process, I bought a lb of menthol RYO tobacco from smoker friendly locally, got home and opened the bag, without looking I grabbed a health handful to put on my Hawk-o-matic tube stuffer, and when I went to load first tube i was horrified to look down and the pile of tobacco I had pulled out looked like it had a nest of super super fine fiberglass fibers in it, no joke it looked like fiberglass fabric had gotten sent through the tobacco shredder there was THAT MUCH of it, I was so taken back by it that I was going to take it back to the store in case any of their other bags had been affected by whatever got sent through the shredder, I had my phone out taking pictures, it was all over my hands and my tray, i was FREAKING OUT, super long threads no bigger than a human hair that broke just like fiberglass and caught light the same way, and all of a sudden in the middle of taking one of the pictures all of it just vanished right before my eyes... and all of a sudden it occurred to me that it was probably the menthol crystals! All I can assume is the tobacco had probably been in a hot delivery truck or something and when it all cooled back down it grew crystals at the top of the bag where there was air space....

The first time I went over to Belfast, Northern Ireland, as I walked down the street I'd see these little rectangular cards a bit bigger than a business card laying on the sidewalk. They were pretty common, and I could not for the life of me figure out what they were. Later on I asked one of the locals who works for me what they were. Well, apparently ALL flavored tobacco products have been outlawed, including the lowly menthol cigarette. So cigarette shops sell little cards saturated with aromatic flavorings. Kind of like little tree air fresheners, just thinner and less tree-shaped. You buy your $18 or so pack of smokes, open it up, and slip the card in there between the rows of coffin nails, wait a few hours, and - presto! Menthol cigarettes, or grape, or whatever. How effective that is, I cannot say.

If necessity is the mother of invention, regulation must be its father.

Menthol tubes at the easiest way. If you prefer topping the tobacco I've had great success with food grade flavors and pg. The best one I've made was with Spearmint. I grow my own and I always have mint growing. Dry mint blended into tobacco is excellent for taste and smoking mint is also relaxing. I inspired myself to do this when I saw Largo has a plant based menthol tobacco.
