You could go visit the Facility where they produce Perique Tobacco. Not really cigar related though. I think the place is about 1/2hr -1hr outside N.O.
I'm not eve sure if they give tours.

Thank you for all the ideas. Cafe du monde is definitely on the list. We hit district doughnuts for coffee earlier. I'm gonna have to try the beans too.

I learned a lot watching a roller at the cigar factory. I topped him a Cuban bolivar. I hope he likes it.

Wish I was there. I haven't been down their since right after Katrina.

Doughnuts? gotta get some Beignets! remember there open all the time.

Try to get in the Hard Rock Cafe if possible.

Lock n load. Kidding. Kinda.

Get some gumbo and jambalaya. Also fried gator tail, frog legs and catfish (usually can be found on a platter at most restaurants).

Take a tour on an airboat.

We went on the river boat and enjoyed live music both on the boat and at several different venues on Frenchmen Street.

Good food, friendly people. Overall, a good trip. Thanks everyone.

Stuck on a delay in Seattle, but should be home tonight.

Nice! Was there a lot of street performers and pickpockets / scammers in the French Quarter?

There is a unique homelessness there. I'm normally not afraid of them in Edmonton. These guys were particularly aggressive, and clearly meth addicts. They're anti social, unlike at home where they are generally easy to get along with. We avoided side streets and were smart about where we went. I also carry a man purse so I don't need to worry about pick pickets. Some stoner grabbed me from behind, later claiming he thought I was his friend. My first reaction was to call out for my friend who was just ahead of me. It did trouble me that my first reaction wasn't to toss him to the ground and boot him in the face, but luckily I believe it was only innocent rough housing. I also carry a knife if I really ever end up in a situation I can't escape. Maybe a bad idea. Overall, in my travels, the only place I've felt less safe was Port au Prince.

It's a good idea to carry your folding money in a front pants pocket. They can wrestle your satchel away from you, but you have to be pretty much comatose for someone to get money from a front pants pocket.

It's nice to hear things are still the same. The trickiness is any one of those streets going north as I remember. now, there's loads of peculiar security under cover operations.

CV, sry to say it was not innocent rough housing... they do it for a living. and other unscrupulous things, as opportunity arises.
No big city here could be considered safe if you have a tourist sign around your neck, in neon.
If you don't blend, you will be a victim waiting to happen.
And I'm sry to say all that, but if they don't tag you, the tax collectors will.
Glad to hear your sole incident was minimal.

CV, all due respect, you don't know the underbelly of your city very well. I've never visited NOLA, but i would not go looking for it. Edmonchuk has some serious as a heart attack bad, bad, bad MOFO places...and some fair shitty people. the homeless here are perhaps closer to harmless in the "homeless areas" hell, i let my daughter volenteer at boyle st. those are just unfortunates...
I'd have to agree with rusty, if you are not in your element bad shit can happen. doesn't matter where you are. WEM, wrong place, wrong time, wrong people you'd get that knife where you don't want it. Don't expose it unless you are fully prepared to bury it someone's eye socket, quick as a wink, and deal with the consequences...you threaten the wrong guy with a blade and you just brought a knife to a gun fight.
