Is this mold or “salt”?

Air cured some El Corojo tobacco for about 8 weeks then stacked them up in opened paper bags to save space. They’re really dry but since I put them in paper bags it’s been about a month and I noticed a few leaves now have white stuff on the midribs.

Is this mold or something coming out of the leaf like “salts”? It doesn’t brush off easy but has to be scraped off with a needle and is almost tacky but really dry. No mold smell and it doesn’t look fluffy.

I figure if it’s mold I’ll remove the midrib and isolate, but if it’s not mold I’d rather leave the midrib on for fermenting so it helps the leaf stay together.

The stem of the leaf is usually more hygroscopic than the leaf lamina. The stem is a common location for mold to appear, especially on burley and Maryland leaf varieties. You might just use a Q-Tip and dab the molded area of the stems with some hydrogen peroxide.
