Just got a shipment of WLT - arrived in very high case

Hi all.

New here. Tried growing my own and have supplemented with some WLT I got from Germany.

I have a bunch of Virginia lemon, burley and oriental.

It all arrived yesterday and after opening the box, I realised it’s almost all in very high case. Some leaves feel slightly damp to the touch, I assume the poor packing (not vac sealed and long transport through wet Europe is the reason. It smells great and looks perfectly cured but now I’m concerned about storage and mold.

I’m guessing I should redry all of this? The leaves are in varying case from medium to very high (with some of the burley being very low) so I won’t be able to be consistent unless I de-stem, let it dry crisp and then jar up with a boveda 65 or something. Does that sound reasonable?

Sounds like a good plan. This has been a very wet year in Europe.

I buy WLT from Germany as well. It always arrives in medium to high case. I de-stem and air dry to out of case until I'm ready to shred. I also buy the three varieties that you buy. I mix 60% burley, 30% virginia and 10% oriental. A very pleasant RYO smoke. If you have central heating on, you'll probably find that it dries quickly with no mold problems. Good luck.

When I make smoking tobacco I now smoke 2 parts oriental to 1 part dark tobacco (burley), sometimes I add something really dark too! Yes I've bought from Tabacblatter in Germany and it too arrived in high case. I just removed the mid ribs and then let it dry out some before stashing it away.
