Looking for turkish type seed, basma, krumovgrad, izmir/smyrna, bafra, shirazi, etc. Want to make RYO smokes. Been making ryo for decades, settled on turkish many years ago, now I want to try my hand at growing my own. Am at @5500 ft, bright warm summers, growing season end of May-thru Sept. Can early-start under lights. God bless all!

I never buy tobacco "OTC". Very few stores sell Turkish tobacco in pure form, much less in bulk. I go thru maybe 5 lbs a year, if that. There are a few/several pure Turkish tobaccos and blends of Turkish and Orientals available on the net, . AS I stated, I want to try my hand at producing my own, it is time considering the anti-tobacco sentiment which has been growing in this country. Havent purchased any whole leaf at this point as I want to produce my own and not be dependent on the political and social vagaries of the American tobacco scene. I find it ironic that cannabis becomes legal in more and more places, while tobacco is being cracked down upon...

Buying some whole leaf will give you a reference point as to what you need to match with your homegrown, and what properly cured leaves look, feel, and smell like. You not only have to grow it, but cure it properly, or it isn't smokable. Whole leaves aren't a "tobacco product" that is regulated and taxed, they are an agricultural product (in raw form).

I recommend adding Prilep to your grow list. It’s a must have for me and has the oriental flavor but with a floral note that I don’t have with the others. It seems to add a new dimension to my blends.
