The purpose is not for home or personal use. Well I tried but they do not send seeds anymore. I told them I was researching the growth of tobacco in East Texas. I am new to this site and would like to start growing cigarette tobacco. The seed request is a little confusing so I will just ask if there is a way to request seeds. I will pay postage. I don't need much because of the area I have is limited. Thank You

Hi Janetta, welcome to the forum. The guys / gals here are super knowledgeable.
Just a friendly suggestion, you might want to remove your address from this public posting. :)

Depending on when you plan to start growing, FTT has a seed bank.

What strains are you looking for? Anything of the "white veined" variety tends to grow/cure easily without the need for a kiln. Many people here, myself included LOVE the Yellow Twist Bud.

If no one has anything to send you, PM me and I'll see what I have left from last years' crop.

And yeah...might want to take your address out of the post.

What part of east Texas are you going to grow in? Up near Dallas, it would be too late to start this year. Down towards Beaumont, you might get away with it.

Welcome Janette to FTT. You may be a bit to late to grow this year but if you are a cig smoker you can find ways here to smoke better stuff MUCH cheaper. In the mean time you can join the fun and get ready for next years grow.

Check here: http://davesgarden.com/guides/freeze-frost-dates/index.php? for your first frost date. From seed to transplant is a minimum of 4 weeks, more likely 6 weeks. Add to that at least 60 days to get harvestable leaf before frost.

The greater barrier to starting this season may be that (even if you harvest nice leaf before frost) shed conditions for curing will be unfavorable during the subsequent month. If hanging green leaf is frozen, it will turn black, and not very nice.

Keep reading, and start your seed late next January. You can probably get it two grows, if the spirit moves you.

By the historical record it might be too late, buy the way the weather has been the last few years who knows. If gaining some experience is worth the risk of failure, you could try it. How close is your growing area to you and water?
