Hey, I have recently quit vaping and took up pipe smoking. I am looking at growing Virginia, Burley and Turkish Samsun tobacco this year and need some advice on some processing procedures. I grew tobacco years ago and have a crockpot kiln but only used it for cigarette styled tobacco years ago.

I really like Presbyterian and Plum Pudding pipe blends that use Virginia, Latakia, and Black Cavendish.

For processing question

1) For Virginia can I harvest and pile cure at 35-40c(95-104f) in a sealed high RH environment till yellow than place in my kiln and increase temp and drop RH to emulate flue curing?.
2) Can I just pile cure for color than air dry and kiln @ 52c(125f) and 80% for 4 weeks Virginia tobacco?
3) How does Virginia taste being air cured than kilned for a month?
4) I am thinking about after kilning pressing my tobacco into bricks than vacuum sealing and sous vide them for an extra week at 54c(129f) than taking them apart and drying to low case to store. Would this help mellow out the tobacco?
5) For making Black Cavendish can I use already cured Virginia or Kilned Burley and what would be best for a smooth creamy producing smoke?
6) For making Latakia can I smoke already sun cured Turkish tobacco
7) The varieties I am growing are, Canadian Virginia, Virginia Gold, Black Sea Samsun Turkish, Burley and Gold Seal Burley. Any tips on these would be appreciated.

One last question, for making a smooth, silky all day blend of the likes of Presbyterian what would be a good ratios of the tobaccos that I am growing get me close to it?.

I appreciate any feedback,

Cheers, Matt

Welcome from me in NZ. Thanks for joining us and have fun. I grow Virginia gold as my main crop and always chuck a bit of Burley in with it. The Burley takes the bite out of the Virginia. Virginia Gold sun cures nicely but is better if flue cured. There are many ways to color-cure (Yellow) I use the cardboard box method when I have too, otherwise I hang on a line. If you have a look around the forum and you will find everything you want.
