Has anybody planted their tobacco through weed suppressor?
I did one year and didn't like it. I held the barrier cloth down with the metal hooks made for the job and had to pull the hooks back out at the end of the year and alot of them were stubborn to get out. Really stubborn, but I have heavy clay so it was like pulling metal hooks out of ceramic. Pain in the hind quarters, but I didn't want them to work loose later and hit the lawn mower. You cut an X in the fabric to plant the seedlings in the X and weeds come up in the X so you still need to weed because that is where the weeds compete with the plants for water and nutrients is at the roots. I don't know that any of that saved work, it just created different work. Plus, more expense. Overall the whole experience was just a pain in the hind quarters and I didn't do it again. I went cave man after that and just tilled the soil with a woolly mammoth hip bone.

Hi Bob

does flue/sun cure or air cure affect the nic content or delivery in different ways
*I'm not Bob

And I'm not really adding much to what he said but it took me a long time to realize/contextualize the distinction between flue/air cure and nicotine absorption. Speaking very generally, air/sun cured leaf tends to be basic and the nicotine can absorb through your mucus membranes in mouth/nose. Flu cured tends more acidic and must be inhaled for significant nicotine absorption. Hence inhaling cigarettes, not inhaling cigars, still getting nicotine from each.

When talking about commercial tobacco products with additives, the curing distinctions probably don't make much difference for absorption once they're all doctored up.

I use it every year. If laid properly it's very successful, you still get some weed growth where you put your plants in, but I find its easier to pull the weeds from the hole than to scratch around with hoes and tillers and sundry implements of destruction. (Oops didn't mean to chop that baccy plant). If you really want no maintenance you can use Builers tape or something like it to patch the hole just leaving your baccy plant's sticking out. The other advantage of this mat is that you get no, or very little mud splash on the lower leaves. Still each to their own. Check out my blogs and you'll see what I do.

Hi

Bob ok got it. I’ve heard of people casing with some white vinegar could that be to raise acidity?
Here's a thread on processing with vinegar. Personally, I've never used it so I have no idea.
