Can I be reasonably assured that if a brand of cigarettes states that per cigarette contains 4 mg of nicotine, can I be assured that is basically correct? Or not?
"All nicotine yield data are manufacturer-reported and not independently measured to confirm the average nicotine intake when a person smokes. Information in the FTC data set is provided at the Universal Product Code (UPC) (ie, barcode) level for each cigarette variety."
EDIT: Keep in mind that the amount of nicotine absorbed when inhaling is only about 1/10 of the tobacco's nicotine content. We don't know which value is being reported. If it is the nicotine intake when a person smokes, then the cigarette may contain 10 times that. Very fuzzy data.
