Newbie here, I have a good basic understanding of air-cured types and their similiarities/differences from reading all of the excellent information here and on other sites online, but am interested in reading your subjective experiences using DAC in small to moderate amounts in your cigarette blends.

I've never tried adding DAC to any of my flue-cured blends, but have tried adding very small amounts of raw (untoasted) Burley but didn't like the smell all that much, too pruney for me. Would using a small amount of DAC instead of Burley have a different effect or would it be too harsh to use? Only reason why I ask is because I've read posts saying that DAC and other air-cured varieties outside of Burley are more neutral in flavor/smell.

I use 5% dark air in my blend.
I also use Maryland which is rather mild with a nice flavor and seems to compliment and tone down the burley without erasing it.
45% flue cure
20% burley
20% maryland
10% oriental
5% dark air

I've recently begun adding a very small handful of latakia to my multi-purpose cigarette/pipe blend. Layers of flavor, no need for casings.

Being that Burley and DAC are both air cured, would the effect be any different if you were to replace the Burley with the DAC or some other fronto variety? I get that DAC is higher in nicotine but does it still have that strong pruney effect?

I personally wouldn't describe DAC as pruney. I don't know how I'd describe it but I like it; its one of my favorites. I'm kinda like Knucklehead in that I use it in small amounts in my blends. I find a little does a lot.

Va/DAC blend is really good but you'll only need 10-15%. Smooth but strong with a considerable nic hit. Burley is going to be harsh until it ages or is toasted.

I make a blend of light air-cured Virginia, light Maryland and Burley, a little dark Virginia and DAC, up to 10% maximum, usually 5-7%... from Orientals - Dubek and Khan Tervel. DAC makes the blend similar to Halfzwar.
