seedlings slow growth

we started our seed almost 3 weeks ago and they seem to have germinated ok but then sort of stopped growing the wife has been trying to water them more often the last couple of days and she says she thinks they look happier, as this is my first time growing tobacco is this normal for them to kind of stop growing for a bit? do we need to water more? less? they are in window location and we have a grow light above them that is on for 12 hours
any help is appreciated

Do they have any food at all? what kind of medium are they in? Otherwise they're making roots.

Hi Harry. It's normal for seedlings to seem like they've stopped growing, at least they seemed very slow for the first month for me last year. As to watering; you don't want them dry out but shouldn't keep them soaked either. If there's no food for them in the starting mix that will slow them down too.

Mine always start slow - don't worry, they'll start growing when they're ready. Don't let the soil dry out, and don't bother feeding them until true leaf sets on. When you do fertilizer them, not more than half strength, every other week or so until they have at least 3 or 4 golf ball size leaf. Actually, seedlings should never get anything stronger than 1/3 to 1/2 strength fertilizer.

don't over water. you want to see that soil start to dry out so the roots have to search once you have leaves.

If the color looks good and they're not stretching out toward the light (getting leggy), you should be pretty good.

Thanks guys, the color was starting to fade but since she started watering them with a turkey baster the color came back, other than that everything sounds as tho we are on schedule, it is just normal potting soil nothing fancy, so don't use anything like miracle grow or something similar yet?

Not everyone can have picture perfect plants like several {more than several] members on the site. If you can get them several inches tall and healthy looking than put them in the ground and watch out. They take to setting out like a fish takes to water.

If u look at them to often they'll look like they not growing much,but that CO2 from ur breath might help them grow,hah,ha
