Trying to help adapt to the market for RYO/GYO/MYO tobacco users, I've began to develop a part of my site (not yet visible on my site though) that will allow any average Joe-Shmoe tobacco grower to sell anywhere from 1 pound + of their home grown tobacco. I haven't officially started it yet, I've only ran it past some fellow tobacco users and my web developer, thus it is still in it's infancy.

It would be very similar to ebay but much easier, quicker and simpler to use. Also, it will allow unprocessed tobacco to be sold ;)

I would like your folks opinion on the matter, I am aware that FTT allows users to post their tobacco for sale and myself have used that feature before so I know there is that "free competition".

Feel free to be harsh, thanks!

It sounds like an intriguing idea ... I don't know how profitable it would be for you, though. Do you think there would enough tobacco growers listing on such a site to make it worth it?

I wouldn't look for a huge profit, just enough to host my site.

I wonder if such a site would get enough "eyeballs" to attract advertisers, which would help with the costs. Tobacco-related companies, such as those making smoking accessories, might be interested in advertising, don't you think?

It would be a great way to get yourself sued!;)
I was kidding,
If I would not smoke it. It Goes in the trash. Unlike big producers that will kill the mold and sell it to the big guys.
I have wondered about the amount of mold I have smoked over 35 yrs.

I know you were just kidding, I saw the wink "smiley."
Wouldn't the "big guys" know enough to recognize "damaged" tobacco at tobacco auction?
By the way, I just heard on the news this morning that marijuana plants are easily susceptible to mold.

I hate to say this but I think it will be a hard sell. there are to many problems. firstly who would be posting the tobacco, the seller? who would be responsible for the quality of it? there is a thing called a duty of care. then there are costs money transfer etc. website running costs, complaints that they have got mouldy tobacco LOL . I think you could be getting into deep water. I have sold on the internet before and it can be hard work !!!!. I am not being rude but this is my honest option.

MarkW I appreciate your opinion, it is one that I considered earlier as well. It would have obstacles for sure.

Is a very interesting concept and I think it could be worked out (your the platform only) you need a skilled web guy to handle cart / gateway (getting ranked is not hard if you use the right focus). Also an Iron Clad Terms of Use policy and compliance. You could run 5 - 10% of sale........
Time to contact every grower in many forums
I like you Michi you don't quit - you must plant and feed ideas

I have to agree with Amaxb that you don't give up and I like that, Maybe I was more looking at how it would work in the UK. It might work better selling everything tobacco related. MB have a look at this site that sells anything Whisky related it might give you some ideas (A Specialist Auction Site)

http://www.whiskyauction.com/ I have used this site and it is a slick outfit. maybe something tobacco related on the same lines could work well.

I started a free classifieds program on my website and will spend most of the day configuring it along with redesigning my new site over the next couple weeks. This; version 1.0 is more of a craigslist than an eBay. We will see how it goes!
