This was my first year growing tobacco. I got the seedlings in the mail fairly late, they had a poor start, and a tough summer (abnormally hot for a long time). As you can see from the lackluster results. The temperatures outside began to drop in mid September, so I brought them inside. They have been around this same size since I brought them inside.
A few of the bottom leaves have turned yellow and I have picked them (literally maybe 5 leaves, all smaller than an average hand). I am putting them in ziploc bags as I don't want to set up a kiln for such a small amount of leaves at this point.
What should I do with these plants?
Should I just continue to water them until all of their leaves eventually turn yellow and I can pick/harvest them? Or is there some way to get their leaves to turn yellow sooner, so that I can pick them sooner? Or will their leaves even start to turn yellow at all due to the lack of new upwards growth?
I would obviously love to be able to harvest those big leaves but like I said they haven't grown at all upwards in the last 2 months of being inside, so I'm at a loss of what I'm supposed to be doing right now. The waiting game is rather tough and some leaves are starting to bruise in some spots, which helps to yellow the overall leaf but of course doesn't make for one full solid entire leaf being a nice yellow colour.
Average temperature inside: 21°C (69°F ish)
Average humidity inside: Less than 50%
Average amount of sunlight near that spot: zero direct sunlight, but maybe 2-3 hours of indirect sunlight throughout the day (will only continue to get less)
I live in Canada, hence these conditions etc.
I would appreciate any help as a new grower and yes obviously next year will be better! I'm happy that I got even a few leaves at all tbh, no matter how small they are I will probably have enough for a few small cigarettes and that to me is success for my first year.
