just when i think, im getting a concept, of how, and what fertilizers, work best, on certain types of plants,

i get threw for a loop, and learn something different,

today i was at a plant, that takes, hundreds of gallons of raw liquid materials,,,,

and mix, them to make the perfect bled, from quart sized, bottles, to 5 gallon buckets,

it reminded me of the movie '' THE MATRIX,'' all these huge 300 gallon plastic drums, on a 3 tier, shelf, about 10 per shelf, with lines coming out of them, and going to a main mixing batchher,

and a line, that the empty jugs rolled on, and 4 at a time got filled, ,, then labeled, and sold for big bucks,

i noticed one brand had the '' copyright'' I.M.R.I. and i know, in order, to have that endorsement your product has to be 100% organic, i sparked up a conversation, and found out the batch of fertilizer, was derived from sea-weed,

i explained to some of them [ while wearing my F.T.T. hat } that i grew my own tobacco, and around december, might want to purchase, some of that mix, that would be best for my tobacco,

..he told, me around december, to come in, and he will give me 3 quarts of what i need,
and ive spoke to the granular fertilizer boss, { my foreman }

and when the time comes, he's going to make me the perfect mix, based on my soil annalysis,

i feel like im in school, learning all this in-depth knowledge dealing with fertilizer,

hopefully, in the future, i'll be the F.T.T. go to guy for fertilizer knowledge?????:cool:

there's a lot more to it, than just throwing some store bought 10-10-10;)

I just looked up the MSDS on "potash". It is KCl (potassium chloride) with traces of NaCl (sodium chloride). I thought you guys said chlorides were bad for tobacco?

FYI -- MSDS = Material Safety Data Sheet. To get the real info on what you want just Google "MSDS (whatever)" and the seller/producer has to supply the contents and percentages. It's one of the few Federal regulations I see any sense in.

In some of my posts you may see "LD 50". LD 50 = Lethal Dose 50% of the testing population. If you want to know how poisonous something really is Google "LD 50 (whatever)" and you'll know. Boric acid and sugar (as bait) is lethal for carpenter ants. They take it back to the nest and it gets them all. Boric acid is OTC in drug stores and says POISON on the bottle so I looked it up. Boric acid is LESS poisonous than aspirin. Go figure labeling. :cool:

Maybe writing poison on it is for marketing. It's supposed to be less poisonous than table salt

Hell of a good guess. I wouldn't put anything past them. I just checked the LD 50 and you're right. (3000mg vs.3450) Considering it was the standard eye wash for years it can be too bad unless you happen to be a carpenter ant. ;)

I've said it before and I'll say it again..soil test soil test soil test. The fertilizer I need is going to be different from what someone in Florida or Texas needs. Hell, it'll probably even be different from what my neighbor needs. The only way to know is to have your soil tested. The really cool thing about tobacco though is that you can really abuse it and you'll still (usually) get a decent crop.
