Nothing really new here. Nearly any plant or animal can be infected with a natural or bio-engineered virus so that it produces foreign proteins. (That's how Human Papilloma Virus--HPV--causes cancer.) In these examples, tobacco leaf is genetically modified by intentional infection with a virus to produce desired pharmaceutical compounds.
