Hello all, I got a second batch of whole leaf to blend, I like aromatics. Can anyone give me some basic info? Should I moisten it with water or sugar water, should I stove after? I got a casing chocolate I think.. it's the wlt old American blend

In my experience it's very hard to copy commercial aro blends as the chemical flavorings they use are hard to get and home extracts fall short (IMHO). All is not lost however. I find that some commercial aro's are just way too strong to smoke on their own, but added to a home blend of WLT tobacco they add just the right amount of flavor. For a vanilla aro I recommend getting a few ounces of C&D's Green River Vanilla for mixing, and for cherry get a tin of Cult's Blood Red Moon. Start out with 3 parts WLT to 1 part commercial and go from there.

Have fun!

As for using extracts from the market, i hear different opinions on the internet. Some say use alcohol base, others say use organic which is sugar water base or something??? What makes good sense to me is someone said they use a vanilla bean and put it in rum or vodka. Other people said they just use sugar water with a rum topper... I will definitely try blending strong aros to whole leaf, thank you for the insight greendragon

Have a look here:

Also, LorAnn Oils has a wide selection of essential oils:
They carry both alcohol based and propyleneglycol [PG] based flavorings. The PG flavors are more likely to persist in the final tobacco blend.

^This^ If there is a homebrew beer shop near you they also carry these type of flavorings (PG). They come in little tiny bottes and a few drops go a long way.

Last question, maybe

What ratio should I mix this to water or just mist it straight on the leaf with no water? The pack came with flavoring, says to just add 1 tbs of water

The PG flavors are too thick (and strong) to mist. It kind of depends on how large a batch you are making and how you are processing it. If doing a small trial batch with pre-cut leaf I'd just mix a drop of PG flavoring with a teaspoon of water or liquor of choice and drizzle over the blend and stir until evenly distributed. Larger batches you could mix up an ounce or so of solution suitable for misting.

About the flavoring and pg.. I didn't even think of this. I'm a vaper and still am, I'm trying to quit cause I'd rather smoke pipe tobacco cause I don't Inhale. I make my own vape juice so I have food grade flavoring. Think I'll try a small batch of that flavoring an see how it turns out
