Not sure what to do. The eldest large ones are starting to yellow / going floppy at the bottom rapidly going up. I have a few days before i can expect to have frost at night. Tempted to just harvest but there's so many plants with small young leaf that'd probably grow out. Should I just take what I got? Any opinionated people wanna chime in that'd be great :)
Note it's only one day -1c (30f) and then back to 3-4c a night.

Harvest the older plants that are going yellow.
Leave the young ones.
(At least, that’s what I would do.)
I'm ok with just taking all the older leaf and leave the suckers to keep growing right, is that technically a sucker crop?
Thanks for your opinion m8 :)
Hopefully they survive the frost

On mine, the leaves near the bottom would yellow and turn brown and crispy whilst the upper part of the plant continued to grow. So, I harvested the brown leaves individually and left the rest of the plant to grow. I call it sun-curing on the plant. Of course, there's no "color curing" after cutting the leaves off. They're already color cured. The leaves smoke and taste just fine- kinda like campfire toasted marshmallows. I'd say the nicotine content was medium low. Using WLT's casing #1 gave them an amazing pouch aroma- almost floral.

I didn't do any whole stalk harvesting till the seed pods were done. These though, I did color cure on the stalk in my basement.

Question
For those that were not color cured, did you ever make nasal snuff with it?

Believe I'm gonna just hang them. If no coloring, no problem. Lots of research shows the snuff I want to make is traditionally green. So if it does cure cool if not , it's ok!.

Edit, finished making a micro test batch of green nasal snuff from leafs of tiny plants I had for seeds hanging. And WOW I've never had anything effect me that way in terms of nicotine. I even wanted a smoke bad while I was doing and kept telling myself after. And now I don't even want one. It's everything I want from a cigarette it's mental clarity and then this heavy wave of relaxation. I blew it out few minutes ago and I'm still glowing
I'm incredibly excited about this news. This means I'll be enjoying my plants even sooner than I thought
Smell is Uhm well like grass but honestly don't mind it, I don't truly enjoy any snuff scents I merely tolerate them. I only use toque quit for ages now. Itd still be cool if some cure but that's merely a bonus now.

no I didn't make any snuff with it. However, the leaves dried to a very thin and crispy texture. It probably would lend itself to snuff, not that I'd know.
I just smoke tobacco. Mine also smelled kinda grassy before I cased it. Casing it totally changed the pouch aroma for the better. It has a very nice almost floral pouch aroma now. Sometimes, I like to just stick my nose down into the container to smell it. Also, when I first smoked mine, it also blew me away similar to your experience. Really nice stuff. I'd say if a person wanted a N. rustica this is the variety to get. The store bought N. rustica I have is gross and coarser albeit more potent in comparison.

Started harvest. The largest harvested whole /stalk cure, hung up and the rest I've plucked the best to towel cure. Thought I'd do both see how it goes. The remaining plants will be facing very cold tempatures as well as possibly snow. If they die, I will then finish my garden duties, if they live, cool will let them go until they die or big enough for harvest. A lot of seed pods dried and ready for next year.
One thing is for certain, these small amount of plants have got me BUZZED... Too buzzed. I stood up and almost fell right back down . They are very very hairy plants.

Noted humidity to cure these things is 80-90% with the furnace coming on now I have pretty little hope for hanging them now. Doubt it'll cure properly hanging I'm not sure I can do it. I'll decide by tomorrow.
I might be towel curing it all by the looks of it. It's not a huge deal but I'd really like to cure them best I can.

Well here's my humble harvest we shall see if any survive tonight that are out still ( suckers ).
I kept all the small leafs, in weed terms "sugar leaves" more or less intrueged on the potency of those things by themselves, cured or just dry, will turn into snuff and see what dreams are made of. My largest eldest leaves are also seperate together.
Hanging was proven in 24 hrs it's not gonna work. Wilted like crazy already and wanting to dry, maybe 1/3 the thickness of the others. Towel ones still firm and "crisp"left the hung leafs in the middle hopefully they finish properly tomorrow, furnace = rip humidity.
I may harvest the "sugar leaves" tomorrow if they are dying.

-6c (21f) last night, frost and crunchy ice grass, and the suckers left out did just fine. Dunno if I'll be getting anything from them but good to know this plant can take some cooler temperatures.

Wow, that's a huge amount wasted leaves :(. We have 4-5C forecast for Wed/Thu nights (I usually get 2-3 degrees less), I'll cut off all the plants in the bags by then and cover the ones in the flower beds with plastic just in case. More moderate sunny weather is coming after that.

Great read thanks! Good to know for next year
Not huge concern for the ones out as they are only there to serve as an experiment. : ) that's great to know though, I was real close to leaving them out originally glad I did not.

Starting to yellow nicely on day 3, that cat piss smell is taking full effect . So sad I did not get much I'm happy I have enough to experiment at least. Next year will be fun, I know so many things I can now fix next time to make some very large differences. I may even get a spot that is FULL sun.
And dear God. I get a huge buzz just handling these things, I am very excited as well, I have very young growth very very very old larger laves and tiny leaves will do sample snuff with them all. If my tiny bud? Leafs or leafs by flowers the little guys, are crazy frosty touching them leaves me with the effect of touching pine sap. It's quite crazy idk if they'll cure but they will be strong. I thought "other green" smokable plants were the only ones with leafs like this haha
