Please shou us some pictures (and measures) when you make next batch of pipe tobacco. I would also like to try.
I mix in alcohol, stir it well, remove any midribs, then I vacuum pack it. What I did today was 300 g of lamina and 20 cl of rum and 20 cl of Tennessee Fire. I divided it into three vacuum bags. Then I put it under some towels on top of our water heater where it is just over 40 degrees Celsius. Then it is left there for a few months, or until my "old" tobacco runs out :) The first three pictures are the tobacco from the last time I made pipe tobacco. Partly what I have left in my humidor, and then a tobacco plug that I pressed for 3-4 months in a paste press.

I also usually bring a tablespoon of honey that I dissolve in the alcohol, but I forgot about it today :)

I'm no expert on this fermentation thing, not really knowledgeable at all, and smoking a pipe isn't a big deal to me, I mostly use snus, but I'm happy with this pipe tobacco, I don't require anything else :sneaky:

Now I feel calm and peace of mind, no more worries about mold :)

Today I moved all the tobacco (129 plants in total) into my workshop where I can control ventilation, humidity and temperature with great accuracy.
I'll let it cure slowly for a few weeks now, maybe a month before I finally dry it and then grind it into flour.

27 plants where the leaves are completely finished on the plant, both color cured and completely dried
including the midrib, (except for a few top leaves that are allowed to fully cure).
I have now picked the dry leaves off and let them dry for a few more weeks before grinding them into flour.

Now I have ground all the tobacco leaves with my hands, 20 boxes of leaves, turned into 7 boxes of "confetti".
Everything is really dry so it crackles when you break off the midrib. On Friday the weather forecast says it's time for grinding outdoors,
It will be sunny, and between 35 och 45 degrees Fahrenheit (°F) :cool:

Summary of 2025

This year I have only grown one variety, Sobolchskii 33 which is a burley.
I planted 135 plants, of which 6 blew away, so 129 were left to harvest (stalk-cut).
A fantastic variety to grow, they all became large, showed nice signs of maturity and color cured nicely, easily and quickly when I hung whole plants.
How it will taste as snus remains to be seen, I have a first batch in the oven right now.

Now I have ground everything into flour to make snus.
It was a total of 589 oz (16.7 kg) which means an average yield per plant of 4.6 oz (129.5 grams)
(Incl midribs).

This is my fifth year growing, and it became my best (last year 4.47 oz per plant)

Right now I'm tired of everything to do with tobacco farming, which Bruno seems to be too :)
I am thinking of taking a break next year, or at least growing significantly fewer plants, max 40-50. And in that case only one variety again.

I grew Sobolchsky 33 last season, and even though it grew in the shade, it was too strong for me. I prefer medium strength, and I liked Symbol 4 and Paraguay P19. The yield is a little lower, but I liked the taste and aroma.
Ok. But what do you mean by it being too strong? Was it the taste itself or the nicotine content? From what I've read, Sobolchskii 33 is supposed to contain a low nicotine content.

The information I have is that Sobolchskii 33 has a fairly low nicotine content, 1.8%, compared to e.g. PY KY171 that I grew last year, which reportedly has 5.31% and KY171, 4.7%. I can't find any information about the nicotine content on Symbol 4.
The nicotine content depends on many factors, such as weather conditions, soil, watering, etc. Mine was strong, but that doesn't mean yours will be the same, as growing conditions vary.
