Are you going to use the bark in your design? I like those pipes. I got in on the Nicaraguan group buy and I want some of Don's wrapper leaf when it comes in so I have to hold off right now on more briar. Maybe in two or three more weeks I can get some of the good stuff to put back. I'd like to see those pictures.

I want to make a decent sized bulldog/rhodesian I found when making my last little pipe that if Iw as going to make anything with a decent girth to the bowl I need bigger blocks

That's the problem I had laying out the rhodesian above. The measured drawing I got from Sokolik on the forum had a bowl diameter of 50mm. My biggest block was 40mm wide so I had to wing it. The drawing was a big help in having something to look at though.

Here's some pics of the blocks I just got. The two on the left are his mini size, and the others are large.

That's got some beautiful straight grain. I checked his sizes and even the small are larger than the mediums I've been getting. It looks like he has first grade ebauchons in now also.

I had been puzzling how to simplify the making of some attractive bands and rings and came up with this solution. (anyone know the difference between a band and a ring?) The brass and copper washers are from McMaster Carr. The maple, basswood and cherry flat stock is from Woodcraft. 3"x24" in 1/16" and 1/8" thicknesses. I may get some 3/16" and 1/4" later. It works really well. The hardest part of making these from thicker material was in getting both sides flat and parallel so no gaps would show. This is alot easier. One picture shows a stem in progress.

Thats not a flaw, thats charachter in my book. Fine looking pipe Knucks. I been reading this thread for first time and saw the pic of your chuck and the links. Definitely on my wish list.

Last nite I mixed some of Don's dark fire cured and turkish ismir about 50-50 and gave it a try in my bamaknuck briar and it was surprisingly good and smooth. I added a fraction of some india dark air to that for aroma purpose I have been saving that Deluxestogie sent to me last yr. And I can tell you that this pipe smokes realy well. Thank You.

Your welcome. I'm glad you're enjoying it. Johnlee and Smokesahoy will be smoking Osage Orange from the BarG ranch in a few more days. That piece of wood has really made the rounds. Texas to Conn. to Ala. to Vermont and Conn. again. And I'm smoking tobacco from Texas, MD, MS, KY and Ohio in mine. This FTT community is something else ain't it?

For spacers, you might also check Jantz Supply or any of the other knifemaker supply vendors for spacers, or even handle materials.

Various metal spacers from Jantz.

Spacers for knife handles can be found in brass, stainless, nickel-silver, colored vulcanized fiber sheets, bone and other materials.

Here's pipe #6. A rhodesian for myself. My first stem that came out okay. I used copper for the ring. Ebonite stem.
