I had one as well. They work great on close work around the plants. They are easy to control when pulled. And as Rickey60 said if it isn't to tall. Good thing You don't have cudzu.

I decided against them for this year. It looks like we're going to be in a rain cycle for a while now. That should get them going. I'll get one of these for the weeds: http://www.johnnyseeds.com/search.aspx?searchterm=hoe&isusersearch=1
Probably the 5".

Hoeing is absolutely the best way to keep weeds down around the plants - I've never tried a stirrup hoe but I've got a fantastic azada (the type they use in Africa) ... golden rules of hoeing are little and often so you catch the weeds young and only do it if the weather's dry or you just end up moving weeds around the plot!

Make sure you keep it sharp too ... a blunt hoe won't cut the roots away.

I had hoped to start planting this evening but the forecast for the next four days is severe thunderstorms, large hail, damaging winds, and flooding rain. Today was the first day my plants made it all day in full sun without wilting. I think hardening off is completed, but I also think I better wait one week on a more favorable forecast. There's some nasty stuff heading for Boboro, DGBAMA, and myself. http://www.weather.com/news/tornado-central/severe-weather-tracker-page

Yup. I had planned on putting mine in this weekend too. Second guessing now. I'm not retired, do not planting means another week in the cells. Either way, plant or not, I feel like I am talking a chance.

The patch is totally planted!

Aaron came by today and helped me set some plants and visited a while. A super nice guy.

I didn't have my camera with me but my sister swung by and snapped a picture and I think Aaron got some while he was there. I'll take some pictures of the patch tomorrow. I was too tired to get the camera and drive back to the patch. I'm sore all over. But I'm all finished planting. :D

I see there was no need for the 410 snake charmer. Looks like Your little helper has that in hand with that big stick. Did You add F2G on the dirt befor the trans plant?

How many plants did you end up planting?
Mine are going in today.

I think I ended up with around 280 in the patch. I have 78 varieties, I grew four each of most of them and kept one backup, planting three of each variety. Except for the orientals. I planted all four of those and some varieties I had five plants, six plants, ten plants and thirty plants. I'll have to count them now to know for sure. lol. The Orientals are closely spaced.

It was nice meeting with Aaron. A polite, well spoken, quiet man that came ready to work. I think Alabama got the best of the Alabama/Colorado swap. It was a beautiful day for a visit, sunny and breezy, not too hot. I wish I could have been a better host but I was worn out. I took a bath and crashed.

Good luck with your patch.

You missed a few, eyelashes, eyebrows, etc. I hurt all over. lol. I guess the worst is my chest and upper legs. To reach the ground with both hands I have to lay my chest on my knees so I don't lose my balance. My chest and legs are just about rubbed raw. They're red like severe sunburn today.

Good job, and good to see you got your hair color back.

Thanks. Good luck with your planting. The snake scare had me temporarily white headed all over. I'm watching where I go, so it might have been a good thing. I had some good help Saturday.

No F2G on the soil. I didn't get your PM until last night. I had dosed the seedling a couple of days before planting though, and I've added no fertilizers to the soil besides the cow and horse manure.

Nice look'n patch Knucks!!
Good luck.

Thank you. I'll post after pictures today if I can get motivated. I'm squeaking and creaking like an old chair. lol. Good luck to you, too.
