Hi all,

I am hoping to start my first role experiment this weekend. I had initially thought that these kits would produce 10 5X 50 cigars. I’ve been reading the wiki, and that suggests that each kit would produce 20 cigars. Since I’m new to this, and I’ve watched many videos and read posts that state that it’s all hand feel, I thought I would augment my approach by counting the leaves in determining approximately how many should go in each stick to arrive at approximately 10 cigars.

So hand feel aside, should I be anticipating 10 or 20 sticks out of this kit?

I haven't used one of these kits. I weighed some cigars once. They ranged from something like 9-11g for a 44x6 to 15-18g for a 50x6.5 or so. If my memory serves me correctly that is.

So minus waste/scrap, and mid rib removal, assuming the kits are 450g ish, i think you should get 20 50ga cigars.

Weight is a good thing to consider. Take a look.

I don't really fuss so much with weight so much. My memory can tell you that if I tend to make 50 cigars I will weigh out 20 oz of filler and it works out.
Look forward to getting to know how much you need for a cigar by feel though.
You can take a finished cigar to compare what is right. Know that weight will directly relate to burn and draw.

You should get around twenty 50 x 6 cigars out of a pound: less if more waste, more if less. Like @waikikigun said it depends on how you work and how you like your draw. Just like a butcher with a side of beef: the more skill you have the less trimmings that get put in the grinder and the more salable cuts that get put in tray. That said, trimmings are required, just the way it is.

But you really should get around 20, some just may be short.

No biggie: save the scrap for short filler.
