I'ts not a wash as of yet LOL. Just a small set back on How many to replant. I can get them little guys up pretty fast. It don't take many. LOL I just hope the seed I sent out makes a good grow for the other Guys. They needed the boost on a good grow.

The Elm trees dropped alot of seed yesterday. Got to pick em out of the trays today. They start fast and have long roots. When they fall it is like snow.

I have a barn and a comercial steamer lined up from a contractor friend I know. He isn't using them this winter and said to feel free to load it up. Got to expand on My flue and fire while they are in the grow stage.

Evey thing is out side now. 2 weeks- transplanting a million of em. Still waiting for the mail man for more seeds to get here for the last start. Mad Man Oshea- The Hatter LOL
Bob says the Olor is actually a filler. GRIN has it misclassed as a wrapper. I corrected it in my notes after I sent out your seed.

I use the D. Olor that I have for filler as well. However I have used it as a wrapper and think it works fine. I like the tan yellow hue it has as well as the flavor on the sticks I mix with. Thanks. But I'm not a picky cigar smoker as long as it tast good. PS: Knucklehead, Shake the F2G befor mix.- I forget to some times.
I believe the Dominican cigar factories do use Olor as a wrapper. And I agree that it sometimes works nicely for that. But I've used everything as a wrapper at one time or another. My impression is that the leaf conformation is not that of a typical wrapper variety. The name, "Olor," by the way, is just my best guess. GRIN calls it "CIGAR WRAPPER (DOM REP)." That accession dates from the same time that the DR began to grow Olor, and its shape resembles no other Dominican variety that I've seen, other than Olor. ("Olor" means odor or scent.)

I class the cigar leaf rather than the plant. If the leaf is perfect it's a wrapper, a few holes, it's a binder, too rough for either, it's filler. Is this pretty much how you do it? Of course, thick veins can be a factor also.
Your suggestion about sorting through the filler from WLT and pulling out the wrapper quality leaf was a great idea and has been working out very well. I get some nice inexpensive wrapper leaf that way now.

MO, I just had the chance to read your Grow Log front to back this morning. It brought back a flood of memories of the challenges of growing here in NM. Raised my kids on home grown meat (pigs, dairy and meat goats, rabbits, chickens and all kinds of fowl) and a huge organic garden out in the middle of the Estancia Valley. Wind was always a factor , and a late frost was almost to be counted on. Our combination of high altitude, lack of humidity, and wind make for a tough row to hoe. I will follow your efforts with interest, as I get ready to move back into a situation where gardening is possible. We are looking at places that have an acre or two, and a drop of about 2000 feet in altitude, so I will be able to consider growing my own. In the mean time, I will continue to commiserate with your efforts.
I look forward to you stopping by the Shop, and remind me to dig out some of the dry leaf I have in the back. A bit of good Latakia and Orientals to spice up your mix until your crop comes in. Your Church Warden stem awaits you......

I know what You mean. So folks know what You are talking about, I will kind of fill in for them on My side and Your side of this mountain. On My side, no to very little rain with alot of blow sand. Desertpipe side(east of here) by a rocks throw. More wind than a plant can take. If He hade a tobacco plant it would be in the house. And just north of where He is at, almost as bad but with less wind. It is the green side but only at the top where only pines and cougers grow. Thanks for the reminder on this grow.I will look up exacly what the elv. is here to post with the humid. I too will bring some smoked Turkish Izmir as well as some of My Cavendish. If You would like I can give You a pet tobacco plant or two for Your shop or home as well. When You move, plant Your baccy on the south side of the house or it will take a hit from the wind. PS: I don't ride motorcycles where the Inerstate has wind socks! Thanks for looking at our grow logs. I agree as well as "camo FTT hats look good on NM baccy folks too" Sell Him one saved for Me Don.

A 10 min. drive from here will get You to the 11,000+ point. Alb. has the longest tramway in the US that will take You up. I like Va. Nice dirt and water.

Had to put a halt on the out side work this after noon. The wind got up to high , so after I get the morning chores and go do the runs, Going back at it. Going by Stag to see Desertpipe with some baccy and then it's on! Plant, plant,plant!

The bit of searching I did on Olor, it also means "original". This differentiates it from most other Dominican varieties which were actually grown from Cuban seed. Olor was mostly used as a filler, and only in more "recent" years has been grown for wrapper.

I like that type of input that every One has gave. I enjoy it in more than both ways as far as cigars. I mix it as well in cig. just to try LOL.
