http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKyJc9ywMFM Here's BigBonner's topping machine at work. Watch for the number of flowers, etc. I can't find it now, but I think it's recommended to start topping when 50% of the plants show at least one flower. Same as Days to Maturity calculations.
I watched months ago but could not find it again (THANKS BIG GUY!)

The African red isn't flowering is it? What's your tallest plant?

My African Red isn't flowering. Which isn't surprising because it has a long time to maturity. One of the longest I think.
African Red is 79 Days
African Red Not yet...

Kutsaga E-2 / Silk Leaf/ Samsun PHYB 1 & 2 are going to flower

I have 2 Kutsaga E-2 (I think they are of the KI 88 type) showing Flower Bud (starting) out of 27 So I think there are a few more days until I can say they have reached Maturity.
My tallest is 44" plus minus am pretty close data says (KI 88 49') (OX 88 4' 5")
124 (KI 88) to 135 (OX 88) Centimeters or about or 53 inches if using 135 centimeters
Maturity should occur at about 53 days to 50% having 1 Flower
My Kutsaga E-2 have been in the ground 38 days planted 6-1-13 early morning. I believe I'll hit 50% with 1 flower at maybe 44 days a week early. Will see

The Silk Leaf is about 35'' and in the ground from 6-4-13 same goes for the Samsun PHYB 1 & 2 but they are at 33' to the flower buds.
85% of the PHYB have Flower Buds and 3 out of 18 Silk Leaf have them.

My tallest plants are the Samsun but they don't count because they are columnar and the leaves are small like you'd expect of an oriental. Of the non-orientals the Baiano are the tallest.
