Back into mold after wrapper?

For those of you who use a mold, who puts their cigar back into the mold after applying the wrapper?

I’ve been doing this some of the time. Other times if I’ve rolled a batch I’ll stack them in the “dry box” together to help the wrappers stay at least somewhat compressed against each other.

If you put them back in the mold you will likely develop creases in the cigar again.

I’ve been doing this some of the time. Other times if I’ve rolled a batch I’ll stack them in the “dry box” together to help the wrappers stay at least somewhat compressed against each other.

Especially if the wrapper is used in high case Im always surprised how much better they look after some rest in a dry box or humidor. I used to enjoy rolling shiny wet wrappers but it seems like I lose some of the elasticity in the leaf when its that high case. These days I shoot for still dry enough have to stretch out wrinkles not stuck to the rolling board.

How long are you leaving the dolls inthe mold before applying the wrapper? I leave in at least 24 hours up to 72 for best results. If you are looking for really smooth finish be sure to roll flat the veins with a rolling pin before applying the wrapper leaf. You can also roll the finished cigar into a length of paper and leave for a few more days as the wrapper sets.

Additionally, one reason not to put them back into the mold is that you have increased the size of the cigar with the wrapper (slightly, but significantly). This will make it harder to get in and out greatly increasing the chance of tearing the delicate wrapper leaf.

I’ve been sporadic about time frames in the mold. Sometimes it’s a few hours other times it’s a few days.

You can roll your cigars however you like. Its your choice. The best results and knowledge come from experimenting and experience although i wouldn't recommend placing into the mold after wrapping. As @GreenDragon said, Usually once wrapped the stick has gone up a ring gauge or few so theres a very high possibility that your will damage the wrapper by squashing it into the mold. I mean you could put it into a bigger sized mold that matches your RG once wrapped but this is not common practice. Usually the mold is just to tighten/compress the fillers and binder a little before wrapping and then once the wrapper has been tightly put on and the RH stabilizes, the fillers decompress/open out a little so theres no seams on the wrapper.
