"Tilling at right angles to the general flow of the water will minimize further erosion" like deluxestogie said at the sort term is the way to go, but that will not be enough , are the aligned trees a river or canal margin?
erosion is not the only problem there, you can have drainage problems also, what about who use to cultivate that land? can you speak with them? after the harvest you will have to use a winter cover crop there or rain will wash your soil away.
The land I'm planing to put my tobacco as also the same inclination, for years as been tilled wrong , "parallel" to the inclination of the land and all the top soil is now on the bottom of the land, this year I will have to use the top of the land but next year I will have to pay someone to bring the soil up and till it to the "right angles to the general flow of the water"

I had to blur because Portugal are the not USA, here people can steal your tobacco.

forumdotobaco if you own that land and will be farming it regularly, you may wish to begin terracing around the hill, perpendicular to the slope. It could be the camera angle, but it looks to fall away pretty quickly.

In 2012 I had 8 days of rain like that just before harvest. It's a hard lesson to learn, but don't give water any long unbroken slopes to run on. In my disaster, looking at the situation after the fact, I had several acres of run off flowing across 30' of my patch. Some small changes would have made a big difference. Two pluses, you still have your plants and there will be some very green grass down hill.

its the camera angle, I'm terrible in photos we use to cultivate this land with clover for the bees, there is an inclination sure but its only about 20% or less took it 30 years for the top soil to move down

Tilling at a angle, I would have had to take all the electric fencing down and pull the posts. I have planted there for four yrs. and never a problem.
My wife is still pissed, and told me I have to take care of the garden also. No garden this year.;)
Well maybe some corn, cukes, onions, tomatoes, watermelon, cantaloupe, beans, peppers, squash, Hot Dogs. Ect.

Thought you had enough of bad luck this season BT , with that moldthing and all.
But this really takes the price , I honestly feel for you a hole lot.Think I can imagine what it must feel like if the same thing happened to my own patches , I would be devastated.
You managed to get half of your seedlings come to life again and hope you can do this here too.

I know my wife will go down and check out what I tilled and get all fired up before I get home.
So out of the kindness of my Heart, I left four beer cans down there and ran them over with the tractor.

They steal it here as well- I'v seen some bad theft reports here. I lost 41 bucket plants this year already, And still got to go to court over last years grow. BT is going to be a pro at keeping his patience on the next grow due to He will know how to head off the problems that hit this year. And a beer here and there.

Me and my boy picked rocks this morning out of the new field and dumped them on the ROCK ROW that surrounds the bottom field. He was hungry for lunch so I set him free while I retilled it again.
He comes back MOM Is Pissed Off , I said I Know, She ain't talked to me in two days.
What did I do Now I asked, Your dumping dirty rocks on top the clean ones and they don't match.
OMG, WTF, I thought I was nutso.

You should have seen how horrified my wife was to learn that cows don't squat to take a dump. Women.

Looks like dampening off . It will spread like that to healthy plants . That is why it is in a circle working its way out .
Starve the plants of water . Teramaster would be your only help .

The only other thing is the temperature got too hot and scalded them out .

Thanks Larry,
I think you hit the nail on the head,
I forgot to shut the heater off in the greenhouse that day and it was real toasty in there when I got home at 5.
Seeing how the sunlight is hitting the plants in there today it is right on that rack. Some are starting to stand up again?

Damn I hate to see that Tom. It's been one thing after another for you this year. I know you'll breathe a sigh of relief when you get those contrary rascals in the ground. Keep on keepin' on.
