Mine isn't even in the ground yet. But things are looking up. It wasn't below freezing last night.

I lost two hens last week. They are inside a chain link fence that is 8 feet high with chicken wire wrapped around it. I sat a live trap inside the pen and shut the chickens up in the chicken house. I left the 2nd dead hen in the pen and baited with bacon and grape jelly. The first night something got in and ate the bacon, but left the jelly... didn't trip the trap,,,took the 8 pound hen over the fence...next night a big coon came back for dessert and I caught him...no more chicken dinner for him...he couldn't seem to swim very well with the live trap on. No more smokin after eating chicken.

I lost 4 hens last year to raccoons. Now my garden buddies roost in an all metal cage. The coons still tried to get at 'em but failed and gave up after a few weeks. I figure the coons are just doing what comes naturally to them and it was my fault for not securing my hens in a proper roost. Taking one or two coons out of circulation here in Baccyville would only make a miniscule dent in their population.

A slight change in gear -- Does anybody still eat raccoon? If we could make it popular again we could thin the population quite a bit.

Chicken.. EXACTLY what kind of fabric are you using? And does it allow water drainage?
Randy B

yes it allows water to pass thru it,,,

i dont know exactlly what type of material it is,,, i got it from excess material on a road construction job,

Chicken, I envy your patch. It looks great! I plan on planting on Memorial Day. I approve of your ending but don't you think "middle" is rather vague? Perhaps "social" might work better. ;<})

Chicken may be using genetically engineered miniature chickens, strategically placed to make small tobacco plants appear enviously large.

The fabric appears to be a spun synthetic, designed for use at construction sites, which allows water to pass through, but prevents dirt from washing beyond the site. It seems to be similar to some of the heavier grades of Agribon row cover, but black instead of white. Black retains more heat than white. Heavier grade retains more heat than lighter grade.

Fantastic looking patch there Chicken. You've made a lot of progress in one short year. Best of luck. It would make me cry for something to happen to the beautiful plants.
