It has only been fermenting 5 weeks, so it's too soon to know what it will become. It will go through different stages, je ponce.

It currently appears that I will have to pick absolutely everything this weekend because Monday will be -5C. It's gong to be a full shed. Fingers crossed, the prediction changes. I might string the bottom two thirds, and stalk cure the top third. Seed production will have to stop at 2.3 million.

Is your shed heated?

Bob

It is heated. I designed it to flue cure in it. It did a great job last year. I've had it up to 180F in a test. The heater is a steel box with air intake, and outlet pipes, with two duct fans pulling air through the box. There are 4 light sockets in the box. The light from the bulbs heat the box.

That sounds great. I suggest setting the temp to a little above freezing, so long as the leaf is green. That way it won't impact the humidity in the shed as severely.

Really, why not just keep it at 90F?

Are you saying that if there are unmatured leaves, that I should delay trying to cure them? If so, I could store any leaves which I think might not cure properly elsewhere.

There is a humidifier in the room too, and a vent in case it gets too humid.

You know, this discussion might be all for naught though because every time I check the forecast, it says something different. I'm going to wait until Monday to decide what to do.

If you can maintain the humidity, then you're set. 90ºF is fine for curing green leaf, as long as you can keep the humidity high enough to avoid flash drying. It sounds like you are on top of the situation.

My shed is just a shed with ventilation and a fan. So I get nervous if the temp approaches freezing, while I have green leaf hanging. Actually, it's been so dry here, that I think some of my last top leaf (Piloto Cubano and Corojo 99) are going to end up with a lot of green, even though the temps have stayed well above 40ºF at night.

I made a massive humidifier for my shed. If I'm not flue curing, it goes about a month on a fill. It's a plastic tote with two holes in the lid at either end. There's, probably a 12" x12" humidifier wick in the middle. A fan blows in one hole, the air flows through the wick and the humid air comes out the other hole. It's not fast, and has a limit of how humid it can get to. It's improved if I put a seedling heat mat underneath, but it's adequate and convenient. Problems arise when I fill it with cold water from the hose.

Vapor proof bags will cure tobacco. That leaf from Don filled with green chlorophyll with the hot summer has cured.

Down here in southwest Virginia, when nasty, cold weather swoops down, the meteorologists call it an "Alberta Clipper."
