I just smoked a brown Ostrolist leaf that came out of the flue curing chamber and it was delicious. I don't understand why. It browned because of being in the yellowing phase for extra long. I was letting the rest of the batch which was taking longer to yellow, yellow, and it began browning. It then went through leaf and stem drying phases.
It was great to smoke without kilning. My theory is the browning, although considered a defect on the tobacco market, is evidence of protein hydrolysis that smoothes out the smoke.?
But it's way better than air cured bright tobacco I did last last year which still required kilning /aging.
