Nah, no fireworks on the homemade. Lord knows where the sparks come from in the storebought ones.

Robbie. How are you mate? Ages since I heard from you. Many many moons ago I smoked Gauloises, can remember a blue packet and a kick like a mule. Here n S Africa we got them filtered. I know when we had cigarette adds there was some hot French girls in the adds. But that was long ago, don't know if it's still available here.

Re: classic french ***

Matty, I think we've got it.

4g Virginia Bright Leaf air cured
2g WLT Virginia 1st Priming
4g One Sucker
1g WLT Prilep
0.5g Latakia.

I might add some WLT casing later and compare.
I made a batch with Fire Cured instead of the Latakia. I upped the Prilep by an extra gram. The one with the Latakia is much better, IMO.

I had never thought to try Latakia in a cigarette blend. I'll have to mix a batch. I don't have the One Sucker or the Virginia 1st Priming. I'll have to substitute Dark Air and Virginia Red Leaf. Thanks for the recipe.

ing Seems a shame they ' screwed ' the adds and not the girls ! I'm going well thanks to you, It's getting late in the season here and I don't think some of the last of the varieties are going to flower. Oh well I've got next season and a bit of seed left over.
Don't worry mate I'm not ignoring you, sending a PM

The blends looks good but I don't think there's Brightleaf in Gauloises Brunes. But its blonde sister Gauloises Blondes has some, I guess Blondes is much more like an American Blend. I found a package of it today, it's probably packaged for North Africa but strayed.

This is appalling. Looks like more than half the mass of the cigarette is trash, rather than shredded tobacco lamina! Other commercial cigarettes today must be equally as bad, and discount brands are probably even worse! That's not even taking chemical additives into consideration.

Yeah, I can tell you that my mockup of Gauloises tastes like them but way better. I bought some Camel unfiltered last winter and I was surprised how crappy they were.

After letting it rest for a while and trying it again, I think I like the version with Fire Cured better now.

gauloises poilu

hey all. I am new to the forum so forgive the newb......lately I got hold of a tobacco blend that was supposed to be like the original "gauloises" that was made from oriental tobaccos, or dark cigarettes...it seemed to have some latakia....the blend was changed over after the first world war to a more American style blend cigarette with lighter american tobaccos.
I was wondering if anyone was familiar with this old style gauloises, and what the blend might be, made of.
