Dark Virginia

Can someone help me understand more about “Dark Virginia”? Is it a cigar variety? More information is hard to find.

If I air cure this variety and kiln it will it taste like cigar leaf? Some descriptions label it as a burley type.

As I understand this tobacco category based on what I've read through on the forum and Northwood Seeds, Dark Virginia is a subset of Brightleaf/Flue-Cured tobacco known for a "deeper, robust" flavor, compared to VA Gold types, and a consistently darker colors.

Many members enjoy these types for their stronger depth of flavor than standard Brightleaf varieties.

The vague term, "dark Virginia", has been applied to dark fire-cured, to burley, to Shirey, and to flue-cured Virginia tobaccos that have been darkened by kilning or pressing or cooking or by adding non-tobacco stuff.

What is Dark Virginia?

I Recieved some seeds called Dark Virginia. From the beginning I was convinced that is Virginia, but the seeds come from this site: http://www.thetobaccoseed.com/Dark_Virginia2.html and I find out that is actually Burley. Does anybody have experience with this tobacco and how to spot it on ARS...

EDIT: Also..."Dark Virginia" (or "Dark Virginian") is not a USDA ARS-GRIN market class.

Sounds like a vague term then that just doesn’t have a solid definition. It also seems like, while you could roll a good cigar with it, it won’t bring a recognizable “cigar taste/aroma”.

Has anyone grown, air cured and kilned any dark Virginia and can report a very rough description of what it brings to a cigar blend?

This year I grew Staghorn, which is a dark Virginian according to this description

Northwest Tobacco Seeds Providing nicotiana seeds for wholesale distributors and growers world wide Tobaccos

Some of it is color curing and some of it is air drying. Have read that this variety can be good to sample after a few months of air drying.
