Do you have any new pictures? I'm curious how your oriental varietys grows?

the ones indoors in cups are taking off too fast, getting leggy. The "leftovers" outdoors have not grown as much but are darker green and healthy despite my neglecting them as "leftovers"

indoors, the ones on the right. Hopefully I can pinch off the bottom couple leaves and bury them deep this weekend to get them back on track.

The neglected, outdoor "leftovers" still in the "cells".

Both are the Turkish izmir. Same germination batch, just different care. Next year will probably just give up the transplant to cups and put the strarting cell trays outdoors as soon as possible and let them wait for planting time.

The late germinating VA Gold which were moved from germination tray to cells 2 weeks ago are doing well too. Funny, they have not been babied at all.........put them in cells and left the tray outdoors and unattended except for a little water. They may be my best looking starts of the year despite my lack of effort.

Still have about 600 sq ft left to do on the side of the house. I can supply bbq and a well stocked cooler as incentive.

Happy me. 6 yds of planting soil being delivered while I am at work today. Hopefully will have beds done and plants in the ground by Sunday (way behind).

Maybe, but my guess from your location is you will still have plenty of time. My raised beds have served me well. Good luck. Bona Fortuna!

Not so much behind as far as having enough time, more like my plants were ready for dirt a few weeks ago, many have gotten leggy/bolted this week so just hoping that they will take the late transplant well and grow properly. I will bury them deep and hope for the best. Some are so bad I may clip the main stem above the 2nd leaf and hope for a good "sucker" to grow as a new main stem.

Summer came on hard this year and caught me off guard. Hard to believe for an A/C man of almost 30yrs. The last plants to be transplanted from the start trays were big gem and I know they're going to bolt early, so my neighbor who is showing interest is starting seeds for me to replace them with.

Don't forget BigBonner has seedlings left he needs to sell. He got started late this year due to the weather, so his may not be as prone to bolt.

The poor VA golds that were left in germination trays way too long are really looking good. Dark green growing daily and staying low in the trays. Not sure if it is being outdoors, the different soil I used in the cells (the baccto peat instead of MG potting mix) or a combonation of the two. Definitely threatening to be my nicest plants.

06-15 just 5 days since the last pic where the leaves were barely spanning the width of the cells.

Move those plants to 18oz cups, set them in the sun and wait till next weekend! They look good now but give them some room under their roots and look out!

hopefully they will be in the ground tomorrow. Skip the extra transplant step. The rest of my starts are in 9oz cups; 18oz seems quite large as far as the space required to maintain a couple hundred plants.

The extra week in bigger cups seem to give mine a bigger root ball the plant seems to be hardier for me. I cut two holes in the bottom and use fishermans flood and drain method. It also washes the fertilizer down in.

Thanks for the input. I am open to anything, being first year grow EVERYONE has more experience than me. The Virginia is acting so much stronger than the other ones did that I don't think they need the extra step. My first 5 varieties went in cups because I just did not feel they were going to be strong enough coming out of the starting trays. This continues to be a learning experience for me.......and there is never enough time; life and family continue to get in the way of tobacco, but I would not have it any other way.
