See, this is what happens when Im unsupervised! :giggle:

The Virginia Red stems rolled out easy enough but I imagine a little moisture would help make more of a continuous ribbon.

After rolling they were passed through a Knucklehead Shredder which resulted in easy to pack flakes.

The flavor was definitely Virginia with a nice woodsy aroma. No bite or harsh but it did have quite the N-kick.

With a little experimenting this could be a viable use for stems as either addition to smoking tobacco or chew/snus. Cheap mills can be had with some looking and patience.

Keep in mind that the alkaloid concentration (e.g. nicotine) is lower in stems than in lamina.

Bob
Agree. I was simply sharing that the smoking experience did include a noticeable amount of nicotine. While you and I wouldn't consider stems viable smoking material others may not be so fortunate. Our Canadian and European friends and fellow Americans on fixed incomes all have a circumstance in which they may experience a shortage of tobacco. Its then and only then stems are worth their weight in gold. ;)

Stems are ill defined. Are they exclusively the central vein of tobacco leaves, or the secondary veins considered "stems"? How do they differ from one another. All long-filler cigars contain secondary veins. Many smokeless recipes (both here on FTT and from major manufacturers) contain a significant proportion of stems. Major brands of cigarettes are manufactured (and have been for many years) with mechanically flattened, shredded stems.

Please include the sources of the "opinions" produced by AI, if you choose to insert them into our discussions on the forum.

Sorry to be grumpy about it, but they always consume my time.

Hey Bob, do you have a ChatGPT account? I'd suggest you ask it yourself if you're interested. I'm not a ChatGPT messenger here. I do go ask it for common sense questions like can I smoke stems? the answer is no.

I can't begin to tell you the time and effort I go to in avoiding bots, AI and other gimmicks that avoid responsibility for their activities. Both on the forum and on my computer. I've had to edit the system registry of my operating system in order to just get Google search results with attribution. The collective opinions on this forum—of humans—is a good place to ask "common sense" questions about tobacco. Asking an algorithm will get you homogenized, pasteurized, averages of both excellent and horrible answers.

I regularly reject the bots that, every day of the week, attempt to register as members of this forum.

Do you remember the days before the iPhone? The times when forums like these were the norm and information was easy to find?

Chat GPT is not a bot. It's an aid. But i'm losing my time here. Did you ever smoke the stems?
