I've always like Edgeworth, a great tobacco for the outdoors while hunting, fishing or camping.
I have a little bit left in a tin from about 30 years ago and I've been trying to find an acceptable substitute.
Here is the recipe I've come up with to share with members who also liked this tobacco.
I started with about 50 grams of burley ( Harrow Velvet ) in very low case and put them in a pot.
In a separate pot I added 1 tablespoon of molasses and 1 tablespoon of water,
To this I added one half teaspoon of cocoa and one half teaspoon of white sugar.
I then added one quarter teaspoon of anise powder.
I heated this for 10 minutes but did not let it boil.
I then poured the entire mixture ( once cooled ) into the pot with the tobacco and mixed it all by hand.
Once totally mixed I put a Ziploc sandwich bag in a noodle press and stuffed in all the tobacco.
I twisted the bag several times at the top and tightened up the press.
I pressed the tobacco for 13 days and tightened the press every day for about the first 5 days but made sure not to over tighten.
After the 13 days I cut flakes and the next evening tried some. Pretty good! not harsh but still had much more strength than my real Edgeworth and I prefer the strength of my new version.
I tried it last night again ( 2 weeks later ) even better! So if any of you go ahead and try this out, and/or add, make improvements, please let all of us know. By the way, no PG or other bad stuff.
