Just arrived in the mail. No reason or rhyme behind why I chose these seeds aside from I like Virginia's and I people have reccomended them.

I should have started these seedlings a bit sooner but here we are.

So here goes. I will be attempting other sprouting methods aside from this. As my 2020 Grow indicated I am very very good at killing seedlings. I have used the sprout in a damp baggie method before with minor success.

Small update. Sprouts.

Troublesome update.

Getting absolutely no growth at all and having issues with the coco coir molding.

2024 isn't looking good at this point. May have to abort.

That's odd. I know you shouldn't normally add fertilizer to such small seedlings but I wonder if the coir's lack of nutrients is a problem. I've got a bottle of seaweed extract which has directions for use at time of sowing so something like that may be safe to apply.

I may well have imagined it but I think one of our members once said that coconut coir is treated with salt during its manufacture.

You have time to restart:
If you can get it, Miracle gro has a good seed starting peat with added fertilizer - but it needs more perlite. 2 parts of the peat, 2 parts perlite, and 1 part vermiculite works great (WrukMix- after the forum member who developed it).
If you can’t get that type of peat, try a commercial seed starting mix with peat in it- coconut coir gives me nothing but trouble as a seed starter, too.

I’ve always had trouble with coir too. Good quality potting soil with Peat moss always works well for me. I believe peat is slightly anti fungal too which can help with overly wet conditions.

Typically, whenever I use 100% coir I buffer it before use otherwise small seedlings struggle. I've found a 50% mix is ok but pure coir needs some pH adjustment. I've done this successfully with CaMg and also with liquid organic fertilizer mixed to a 5.8 pH

Update. Seedlings doing much better in organic potting mix. Never again coco coir. Never again. If these are transplantable by June 1 I may have some hope.

Mini update.
Del Golds are thriving.
Cherry Red is sluggish.
Gold Leaf also sluggish.
Having some issues with green algae but not too too bad.
Getting there.

Later update. With only 2 months until first frost we'll see if any of these will reach maturity.

No photos as Im working the night shift and I need to kill time.

Flower buds beginning to form on the Del Gold and Cherry Reds. I've been fertilizing weekly with diluted seaweed extract but not exactly paying attention to volumes. This season has been very passive in terms of focusing on the grow due to life commitments but I am definitely formulating plan for next season.

If I do manage to get some ripe leaves from this grow I'll still follow through with air curing and kiln fermenting just to see it through to the end.

Roughly 3 weeks away from the predicted frost date. The Del Gold's hade flowered. Will deadhead them and wait out the weather. Will be pile boxing and air curing before fermenting.
