I am satisfied with the way it is evolving, I do my best to give my tobacco the best conditions. This is about half of my culture this year, the cigar plants are in another locality, and I'm really curious to count them. a picture I took in the morning, in the rain.
Thats a really big and good looking grow that you have going. How do you find the time to do that many and that high quality?
Going to need a big barn to cure them in and a kiln will work hard to do all those big virginias !
Good Job Gil!!

I did a plant count this year; -in addition to almost 200 Virginia, I still have approx. 50 plants of the varieties; -Goyano-Costello Negro-Bamboo Shoot-African Red-Turkey Brightleaf. In addition to those 160 Burleys I have another 112 Burley of the varieties; -Semois -Perique -TN 90-KY 190 Moldavian 456. plants are added 354 cigar plants of 19 varieties. There are 6 oriental varieties that can not count them. The only conclusion I can dull is that maybe it would be good to visit a ...... doctor.

I found some dried leaves under the plants (some plants lost a few leaves due to heavy rains). I couldn't resist .... I brought them home, I rolled a small cigarette, it was better than some cheap cigars (not I'm exaggerating). I smoked that cigarette to my fingernails. I think this year I will have some good tobacco. I paid a visit to the "field" of Virginia, the plants are very beautiful and healthy.

That’s a really nice burn for uncured tobacco, you must have some good soil. Nice work!

I have a fairly large number of diseased plants (approx. 4-5%). Next year I will have to take action. Probably had to do some spraying in the field, I did none of this.

There is an affected plant, next to it there are healthy plants, another affected plant, other healthy plants, scattered randomly in the field.

Next year I will start with rigorous disinfection (seeds, soil, alveolar trays, tobacco field, and everything that comes in contact with plants). I was careful not to take the seeds of an infected plant.
Is anyone growing potato, tomato, or peppers nearby?

In the immediate vicinity I did not notice other solanaceae, but there are certainly people who have gardens full of everything. I don't know what to think; in the country, my neighbor has potatoes right next to my tobacco plants — I haven't noticed (yet) any affected plants.

In addition to cultivated solanaceous plants (including okra [bamya]), there are numerous, common solanaceous weeds that support pathogens common in tobacco, and often transmitted by insects from as far away as ½ mile. Most of these pathogens do not spread particularly well beyond the initially inoculated plant in any given season.

The reason I’m asking is because Potato Virus Y is common in Eastern Europe and the articles specifically mention countries near you like Hungary and Bulgaria. I can’t pinpoint the virus from looking at three photographs but those photos share some commonalities with the description of PVY. Perhaps you could read the articles and compare the photos to your plants in the field as you can see the plants in different lighting and know the changes they went through during its development. There are also other diseases that have those symptoms so I cannot state that it is PVY but these images may help you in your diagnoses. If it is PVY you may have to select some strains that are PVY resistant if you can narrow it down to that disease.

On this link, you will need to select the different subheadings for more information. Main Symptoms, Protection Methods, Resistant Varieties, Ecology and Epidemiology

Since I cannot say it is PVY but only have suspicions, I will provide links to help you provide further diagnosis with text and images:

This diagnostic guide is for nutritional deficiencies but may be beneficial in the future.

You're absolutely right. I didn't think of that, they don't have to be CULTIVATED solanaceae plants, they can just as well be weeds. Thanks again sir. Okay, but then it means that the insects are "guilty" of most of the damage, that makes sense .... I've never used any insecticide.

I started to pay attention to the "subtleties" of tobacco cultivation. I observe, photograph, everything that is unusual, I focus on diseased plants. I found the signs TMV and PVY on some plants, but the vast majority of "diseased" plants is actually malnutrition. .I noticed some white "geese" on tobacco, ONLY in the city garden, and I think it has to do with the fact that the neighbor has grain stores, only here I have infested plans. I think they (and others) are guilty of spreading viruses.

I started a small batch of "Latakia" today. The tobacco I used is; Bursa, Izmir Ozbaș, Samsun, Trabzon (that's what I had, that's what I used). The wood is oak and pine, bay leaves, tears from Chios, a little incense. I made the first smoke today (it takes about 30-60 minutes). I plan to smoke for about 30 days, the smoke has a pleasant, soft smell, it is not pungent like the smoke used to smoke meat. I'm curious what the result will be, I've never smoked "Latakia", I've never seen "Latakia", but I try ...
